The 2022 Trainer’s Toolkit makes an excellent gift for both new and veteran Pokémon card collectors alike. My 7-year-old son recently started collecting Pokémon cards and received this as a Christmas gift. In a nutshell, if someone is brand new, this Trainer’s Toolkit isn’t designed to work as a full deck by itself - it’s more designed to upgrade/strengthen a person’s existing 60-card deck. Brand new players might want to check out the Pokémon Battle Academy or pick up a ready-to-play “theme” deck - those are better entry-level items for beginners. Here are the Top 5 reasons why a Trainer’s Toolkit makes a great gift: 1) 4 Booster packs (~$16 value) - this Trainer’s Toolkit contains booster packs from the Sword & Shield series (2 Astral Radiance, 1 Brilliant Stars, 1 Evolving Skies - exact combination my vary from box to box). Even if someone already has everything else in the Trainer’s Toolkit (supporter cards, energy cards, dice, coins, etc.), these 4 booster packs ensure a certain element of surprise. My son was fortunate enough to pull a rare Machamp V Alternate Art from an Astral Radiance pack, which is worth over $100 at the time of this writing! 2) 2 Lumineon V cards (~$3 each so about a $6 total value) - this is a “Black Star Promo” card so this particular card art is only available through this Trainer’s Kit. A player won’t necessarily need a Water deck to incorporate this card into a 60-card deck, it has a useful Ability called Luminous Sign, which lets a player search their deck for any Supporter card… pair it with a powerful supporter card like Adventurer’s Discovery (also included) and players can quickly find cards that they need to set up their attack. 3) 50 Supporter cards - lots of really excellent supporter cards to help you and disrupt your opponent. For example: Bosses’ Orders (switch opponent’s active and benched Pokémon), Adventurer’s Discovery (search deck for up to 3 Pokémon V cards), Professor’s Research (discard and draw 7), and Marnie (both players shuffle their hand and re-draw cards). Also contains many special energy cards (Double Turbo, Capture Energy, Fusion Strike) to help players power up attacks. 4) Over 100 Energy Cards - while veteran players are drowning in more than enough energy cards, new players will welcome receiving a “brick” of every type of energy card to help build their deck. 5) Accessories - dice, V-Star marker, status markers, and sleeves are a nice bonus. Veteran players will already have most of these items. The sleeves that come with Pokémon products are unfortunately pretty mediocre (difficult to shuffle, not as transparent, not as durable). I suggest looking into higher-quality sleeves such as sleeves from Dragon Shield.

My son loved this Pokemon trainer set. Had a great variety of cards Even brought me back to my old days of playing. I haven't played in over 25 years, so I am unsure of the Pokemon in the set, and their value. However it was easy to teach my son the rules a of the game and get a few good rounds out of playing with full decks.

This is a amazing product. Although it is a little costly at retail for 30-35 dollars, the Pokémon Trainer Toolkit is a great start for anyone's journey into Pokémon. This Toolkit contains energy, 2 foil Pokémon, 2 coins, 7 dice, 65 sleeves, and 4 packs (I believe the packs are 1 Evolving Skies, 1 Brilliant Stars, and 2 Astral Raidiance). This Toolkit also has amazing trainer cards included as well, like Adventurer's Discovery, Evolution Incense, Ultra Ball. Highly recommend for newcomers and Deck Builders
