I am absolutely in love with this Oreck Vacuum!! I have owned many vacuums and this one outperforms them all! You turn the thing on and it moves by itself dragging me along with it! A dream to operate! Very light weight and extremely powerful suction. I like that it has 2 settings..low for hardwood and high for carpet. The HEPA filter is HUGE due to my allergies to dust and pollen. I vacuumed my whole house yesterday ( 2,500 sq ft ) and never broke a sweat. It just glides around. Some reviewers have complained that it is louder than they would have liked. So What?!?! This thing is powerful and my floors have never felt better in bare feet. I would give this 10 STARS if I could!

I could not have described this problem better! Danny Boy wrote : {Oreck used to be a good brand before China bought it. But after only two and a half years of half-way decent vacuuming, this morning while vacuuming the plastic handle at the top of my Oreck upright broke right off at the top of the metal neck of the unit. I was stunned. Never expected such a thing with an upright. Clean off! And of course when I called Oreck they said the warranty for this model doesn't cover this at all. So one star only for this cheaply built Oreck that will only last two years.} Ours lasted 2 1/2 years with same stupid break at the handle to metal interface. The integral handle broke clean off!!! I would share a photo, but do simply search for Danny Boy's post to see the exact breakdown of the handle - he posted exactly the photos that I would have posted. An Incredibly dumb design. Given time, this will happen to all these particular model vacuum cleaners from Oreck. And at the time of purchase, Amazon stated this as supposedly 'assembled' in the USA, but the plastic handle-to-metal design sucks more than the Oreck vacuum cleaner. That's north of 300USD down the drain, sucked up, up and away. :-( Raspberries.

My wife and I wanted a nice vacuum that would last for well over a decade . Having gone from a $20 vacuum we invested in a $200 shark. We were disappointed. Top heavy, held a cup worth of debri, ect. This Oreck is light but doesn't feel cheap. It feels well made. It self propells without resisting you. On low it is quiet and picks up debri before you even go over the area by several inches. I could go on, as it is literally the best vacuum we've ever used. My family gave us their 30 year old oreck and it still works great. Noteworthy Features: self propells, great suction, simple, very well made, led lights, power selection. Best feature: it is unlike most modern, overly complicated vacuums that are all hard plastic material. It knows it's just supposed to be a vacuum cleaner :) .

So when it comes to upright vacuums only three things are important to me: 1) suction power; if it doesn't suck the carpet up from the pad underneath, it's not strong enough 2) durability; I absolutely detest having to shell out for a new vacuum every few years, and 3) it's bagged; canisters are messy, unhygienic, and I want HEPA bags for my allergies. Price is also an issue as I can't and won't pay like $500+ for a vacuum, but nothing else matters - it could have a million attachments or none, it could weigh 75 pounds, it could sound like a jet engine, I just don't care. My last two vacuums were Hoover Windtunnel Anniversary Editions, and were rad. Unfortunately both had motors that died at or just under three years in, and it appears that vacuum isn't made anymore, so after an evening of tearful research I found this Oreck. No attachments, nothing fancy, just an upright bagged vacuum. The suction is excellent - as good or better than the anniversary edition Hoovers. The bags are cute, relatively cheap, and sold as a box of 8, which is handy. BUT. This vacuum is so lightweight and flimsy feeling that I worry it's going to break - not break down, but literally break - at any minute. The first time my husband tried it his face fell and he looked at me and said, "It feels like a toy." Legit. However, if you need a super lightweight vacuum that a 10-year-old could easy overhand throw across a room, this might be a selling point for you. Other good things: it's not that loud for how powerful it is, and it includes directions on how to disassemble to clear blockages up in the shaft should you ever need to, which I've never seen in a vac before. I'm downgrading to 4 stars for the scarily flimsy feel, and will update my review if necessary. Current price for this vacuum ($250 at the time of review) is about a third less than what I paid almost two weeks ago when I had to make a purchase RIGHT AWAY, and I might not be so heartbroken over the build quality had I paid the current price. So get it now, I guess?

This Oreck model is a replacement for our original X21, which provided reliable service for 20 years. Regrettably, the construction quality of this unit does not appear to match that of the X21. The new vacuum was received on February 10th—just 12 days ago—and today I observed that the pivot point on the lower handle is already broken. The cause is unclear, as it has not been dropped or mishandled, and this was only its third use. Although I noticed several reviews prior to purchase that mentioned concerns about quality, I did not expect Oreck products to experience such a decline. It will be interesting to see how Oreck addresses this issue under warranty.
