Love this mixed with rice!

I liked product, only wish each “grain size” was smaller to mimic Trader Joe’s brown rice medley. Still the taste and nuttiness was there.

When Trader Joe’s stopped making their “Brown Rice Medley” (WHY???) I decided to make my own. It had 3 ingredients, brown rice, Daikon radish seeds, and ….black barley! This fit the bill perfectly.

I purchased this black barley as an experiment, since I normally purchase the light/white variety. I have read that deep or dark colored foods usually contain more nutrients than their lighter colored varieties, and I am eager to bolster my health in any little way I can. My first batch of cooked black barley was a hit, it looks really cool when sprinkled into my salads, and fits right in when I added some to a burrito. I do not perceive any difference in taste from the lighter type barley, but the higher level of nutrition is welcome, and barley always keeps me filling full for a long time. I enjoy trying new foods! I would recommend this product.

I like this black barley and would love to give it 5 starts, but wow, I have used it several times now and this morning I got it out and the jar is just crawling with weevils. Evidently there were a lot of eggs in the bag and they are now hatching. I learned a lesson that I should have thought of when it arrived, stick it in the freezer for 2 weeks before leaving it at room temperature. Seems like the factory that this came from must have a weevil infestation.
