Be cautious
Mine was a little bit too long , so I cut it but didn’t wear a mask . BIG MISTAKE ,especially if you have asthma!!! Caused irritation of my lungs for 4 days! Magnesium is a bad thing to get into your lungs. The rod fit fine in my rheem 40 gal. after cutting.

These are good investments for your water tank
These are good investments for your water tank. I've replaced 6 of them. Some are totally dissolved, some fell asleep. Hopefully, they will extend the life of my water tank. The only thing I've noticed is that if the Anode Rods are in the tank for a while, it is a Bear to get it out. There are a few that I have to use heat and impact wrench for an extended period of time to knock it loose. It is just as much work to replace the water tank as the Anode Rods. However, these are much cheaper. If the overhead space in the basement is limited, you can cut a piece off the bottom to insert it into the water tank. There are also others that have 3 links for limited overhead space.

Great Value (except for the stickers)!
This is the second time I have replaced the anode rod in the 18 year life of our tank, so far. Given the condition of the old rod each time, I will most likely be replacing them every 5 years now - $20 every 5 years vs. a new hot water tank being installed every 12-15 years (if you’re lucky). That being said, this product lost one star in my review because of those darned stickers that are put directly onto the anode rod - I couldn’t even believe that they did that! After reading the other reviews, someone mentioned maybe the company could put the anode rod in a plastic bag and put the stickers on it or maybe even zip tie the sticker labels to the anode rod. There’s got to be a better way because it is a pain in the butt to get those stickers and a sticker glue off of the anode rod. Actually though, I took the advice of one of the previous reviews and soaked the rod in hot water for a few minutes, peeled the stickers off (which still left the glue), gently scraped of as much of the glue/sticker and then just used an SOS pad lightly to get the rest of the glue off under running hot water. I then washed the rod off with dish soap and hot water and then rinsed it with hot water...that seemed to do the trick.

Work fine with GE, 40 gallon water heater
I brought this item to replace the magnesium anode rod in the 40-gallon GE water heater. Preparation steps, turn temperature control to "Pilot" setting, turn off cold water supply, drain around 5 gallons of water of the water heater. I then removed the 5-year old anode rod in the water heater using the electric impact wrench (Milwaukee, model 9072-20) with a 1-1/16 inch socket. It only took a few seconds. Both old one and new one have same length, so I don't have to cut it. Wrapped a new one with few rounds of Teflon tape then tightened it with regular wrench. Everything went fine, no water leak. I plan to replace a new anode rod every 5 years. Hopefully, I remember this. I strongly recommend to use power (air or electric) impact wrench to remove the old rod, much easier than an elbow-grease wrench. The whole process was around 15 minutes. Small complain: the label is hard to remove because of sticky glue that they use!!!! Why??? They should use a little less sticky glue. Remove the label and all the glue first before taking out the old rod. That will make things go faster.

Appears to be good.
Returned the first one, appeared to have been previously installed. Second one was new and fit my 40 gallon tank perfectly. Why did you pick this product vs others?: Same as the original.

Labels Difficult to Remove
This magnesium rod is a little shorter than the original rod. It is also thicker, so overall I think it will give the same life as the original. It fit the threads and screwed down fine with the same socket that removed the old rod. The old rod was very difficult to remove. With difficult access, I couldn't break it loose with a breaker bar, breaker bar with cheater, or using straps to hold the WH in place. The electric impact wrench did the trick. It was $80 for the impact wrench and sockets, but I wish I had gotten them in the first place. It would have saved a lot of effort and time. There were 3 different labels on this anode rod. They were difficult to remove, even with adhesive remover. It took a lot of effort to get it clean so the adhesive and paper didn't end up inside my water system. I may look at a genuine anode rod from Rheem for the next replacement.

Good replacement part
This item is a good replacement part for a hot water heater it was a exact fit. We were on unable to use it due to not enough room between the the ceiling and the hot water heater to install this item. So had to return it and call a plumber to fix it

Decent sacrificial anode rods at a good price
Easy to install (if you have an impact wrench to remove/install it in your heater) and I expect to replace them every 3 years or so based on the extremely hard water we have here (over 300 ppm TDS). While aluminum anode rods are cheaper, magnesium rods are better for your health as you can drink the water safely, whereas with aluminum rods, it's not quite as good from what I've read. Cheap insurance for your water heater tank, and heaters aren't cheap anymore (at least not my 80 gallon ones).

The anode rod end up being less thicker that my original one. But it works.

All was good, the only opportunity for improvement would be the product labeling. There were about three sticky back labels that were wrapped around the rod that needed to be removed before installation, as they might have ended up clogging up shower nozzles or screens in taps. The labels were stuck on very well and it was a bit of a chore to get them and their glue off the rod. I would rather see a more appropriate, and easier to remove means to mark the part number on the rods. I think a sealed bag, with labels on the bag might be better, or a band or wire tag you cut off, for marking the rod. For one rod it's not bad, I cursed them a bit, but I don't think plumbers would want to have to remove a bunch of very sticky labels more than once, and that a shame as the rod was great otherwise.
