The Shaw Brothers Studio produced hundreds of the greatest, most influential, exciting ad important kung-fu movies ever made. Unseen for almost two decades, these timeless classics are finally available in remastered editions. They are an absolute must for any martial arts movie fan. From the director who gave Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung early breaks in film, Ho Meng-hua teams up with Mr. Kung-fu hero, David Chiang, in a funky, over the top, martial arts chiller based upon a secret kung-fu technique that is also the film's English title, Shaolin Hand Lock. Fans and non-fans of the genre will elate to again see Chiang match fists with Shaw Brothers’ number one villain, Lo Lieh.

Decent movie that could be remade for current times.
I've been use to watching Shaw Bros movies from the warring periods so it was good to see a more modern 1970's timeline movie. This is a great piece of a past betrayal and a current revenge by the children. I feel that this movie has such a classic plot that it could be remade for the current times. I have to say that their was a brief "FULL FRONTAL" nude scene that I was surprised stayed in the movie. Definitely worth watching if your a big David Chiang fan.

Was expecting a bit more
I have watched too many Shaw Bros flicks to count. That being said, I have seen some tremendous ones and some rather sub-par ones as well. The reason I jumped on this title was because it starred David Chiang. His skill in the movie "Shaolin Mantis" was stellar. With this movie, although there were some "decent fights"...I had a few qualms with the overall film. When I think Shaw Bros movies, I think OLD SCHOOL kung fu. This film was a more modernized. All the settings looked to be in the late 70's to early 80's. I prefer the movies where you see the Manchu vs. the Han. The Shaolin Handlock technique seemed rather linear. There wasn't much to it. Most movies have multiple moves within a form...this style, not so much. One positive I will give this movie, besides starring David Chang, is how the main character had to adapt to finish off the bad guy.Overall, I give it 3 stars. It's one of those DVDs I'll pop in a few months from now, but it isn't one I'd watch over and over and over again.

SUPER
DAVID CHIANG IS AN ALL TIME FAVORITE. HE DEFINES MARTIAL ARTS AS SOMETHING WORTH WATCHING. HE IS AN ABSOLUTE ICON AS FAR AS I REMEMBER WATCHING MARTIAL ARTS FILMS.

Attention Shaw Fans: Here's Another Goodie
The amazing Lo Lieh plays a villain you'll love to hate, and who doesn't dig David Chiang as the handsome, dashing hero with just the right amount of swagger in his swag? There's some surprises in the plot and good character development based on family devotion versus obedience to the Boss. Sneaky, smart righteous revenge can be so entertaining!

Watch other Shaw Brothers Films first
David Chiang is in the movie, but David Chiang doesn't make a movie great. He has been in quite a few clunkers, and I put this one on that list. I watched it on DVD, but assuming it is the same movie here.So let's get to my basic problem with this movie. I watch martial arts movies for the martial arts. The Shaolin Handlock is one move. It really the only movie of the main character's martial art. I guess it is supposed to be a secret, but since it is a single movie - of course, a counter can be found to it.One could say in that way it was like the classic Jimmy Wang Yu One-armed Swordsman, but, then again, that One-Armed Swordsman is a much better film.If you are looking for a movie to watch, I would go with another Shaw Brothers film. If you are looking for a more modern day Shaw Brothers film then I would suggest Chinatown Kid, The Duel (with David Chiang and Ti Lung) aka Duel of the Iron Fist, or Street Gangs of Hong Kong.
