2-Pack Guardianite Premium Refrigerator Lock with Built-in Keyed Lock (2-Pack Black)

I’m disabled and live on a fixed income with my three younger children, 8, 4, and 2. I have to stretch just $430 per month in food stamps for the four of us for the ENTIRE month, and it was causing us to go hungry because my kids would just go in the fridge to eat whatever they could grab if I didn’t feed them immediately when they complained a dozen times a day that they’re hungry. We’d come up short on food at the end of the month, so I had to get reliable locks for my fridge to ensure that the kids weren’t just taking food whenever they felt like it. Following the directions meticulously, the locks have held for a couple weeks now and my 8 year old can neither pry them off, nor figure out a combination since these require a key. I’m able to properly meal plan and the kids are able to eat square meals now instead of eating the fridge and then wasting the meals I prepare because they’ve snacked too much. If you need to keep kids, or maybe even a roommate, out of your fridge, then these are certainly high quality, durable, and reliable!

I installed this on a freezer in my garage port that did not come with an integrated lock. It was a new freezer with a crinkle type texture painted finish so not smooth. I wanted the lock to not only secure the door from being opened but also keep the door from partially opening due to bad seal. I put some blue tape on the location I wanted to install, locked the cable and held it up on the freezer tracing its position with the cable pulled taught. I used the marks to place new tape marking the front edge of the plates to be installed. I cleaned the area with alcohol and followed the instructions for bonding the plates to the freezer which includes applying constant pressure. After installation the cable is just snug and holds the door shut. The lock is engaged by turning the key and unlocked by turning the key back the other way so we typically insert the key, pull the cable, access the freezer and then shut the door, drop the cable in and turn the key to secure it. In other words, it is not the type of lock where you unlock with the key and it relocks itself when you push the cable back in. I actually prefer this way. This has been installed for over a year and works flawlessly. We access it several times a day. There are a few chips of the white paint where the cable inserts but the lock mechanism is still smooth and easy to operate. I assume you could pick this lock easily or force it with a screwdriver as it is just a fridge lock but the plates are really on there and no one is just going to pull it open. I installed the cable on the side of the freezer and the lock on the front of the door so the cable bends around the corner. This way the cable swings out of the way. Works great.

I use these locks for my short term rental to keep people out of places that I don’t want them to be (such as my wine fridge). Note that somebody could easily cut the cable with proper tools, but it’s really more of a deterrent than real protection. It’s great for kids. The best thing about the lock for me is the same key works on all locks so I don’t have to worry about finding the keys since I’m using six of these in various places in my rental. Highly recommended for my use case.

I purchased this because of my parent who has dementia and kept going through my refrigerator pulling items out that shouldn’t be left in-refrigerated. The lock works great. I made sure to clean the area well, dry it then align it before sticking the item. Stick the lock softly first to check position then firmly because once it’s placed you won’t get it off easily. It’s easy to get the lock on and off if you make sure to allow a little amount of space. It works for my purposes.

We actually purchased this to keep our elderly parent that lives with us from taking showers when no one is home. I know this seems punitive but he has memory issues and we have told him many times not to shower unless we know he is going to do so. He just couldn't remember to tell us and we were getting so frustrated. So, as a last resort we installed this for his own good. It works great because now he as to ask us to open the shower. I attached one side to the shower door frame and the other to the shower door glass (but I only exposed the four corners of the 3M sticker on the back so that it would be easier to remove when we no longer need it. I can only imagine how difficult it would be to get off the glass if we stuck the entire pad onto the glass. I took one star away because the key can be difficult to get into the lock. It takes some fussing around with it but eventually you can get the key in. It just shouldn't be that difficult, which tells me its not the best qualify locking mechanism. All the other components are top quality.

I received my fridge lock today and installed it. It was very easy to do! It is a good idea to read the instructions that come with the lock- it even warns you to do this when you go to take off the plastic that covers the 3M tape! I used alcohol wipes to clean the surfaces and then dried it all off with a paper towel. I placed the two sides as close to the center of the unit so no one could pry their way into my beer stash. The tape is supposed to be pushed down hard for a good permanent seal and then wait 24 hours before using the lock- seems like overkill. The key works well in the lock- it was very smooth. I put the lock portion on the front door and the other side that holds the cable on the side of the fridge. Good purchase!

I have purchased several different refrigerator locks over the years. These are the ones to buy. Most of them are made of plastic, have a cheap adhesive, a cheap "lock," and the cable does not swivel. These are made of metal, have a swivel for the cable so that it hangs out of the way, and use good 3M adhesive. The lock is okay. It's comparable to most cabinet locks, and provides enough security for a refrigerator. But it's certainly better than the others I've purchased. The mounting pad is pretty large. This isn't a bad thing, just be aware and measure first. They even come in a nice box with instructions, instead of a plastic bag like the others I've bought in the past.

Its the second time i buy one of these. This time its to keep my camping outside fride closed. Its super easy to use and with that, no more fridge semi open and beer not cold ! ; )
