I just have to share how incredibly happy I am with my purchase of the Sun Away Portable Blackout Curtain! This product is an absolute game-changer and offers phenomenal value for the price. It has far exceeded my expectations in every way possible. First off, the installation process was a breeze. Within minutes, I had the curtain up and securely attached to my window. The suction cups are exceptionally strong and reliable, ensuring the curtain stays firmly in place without any worry of it falling. The effectiveness of these blackout curtains is truly impressive. They completely block out all light, transforming my room into a perfect dark haven for sleep. The material is thick and robust, allowing no light to penetrate through, which is exactly what I was hoping for. This is actually my second purchase of the Sun Away Blackout Curtain. The first one I bought over two years ago, and the quality of the fabric is still holding up wonderfully. It shows no signs of wear and tear, proving just how durable and well-made these curtains are. I am beyond thrilled with how this product turned out, as it was exactly what I expected but even better. For anyone in search of a high-quality blackout solution, I highly recommend the Sun Away portable blackout curtain. You won't be disappointed!

Update in 2024: Still using our Sunaway curtains in our child’s room, and now we’re expecting another little one to join our family this year, so we’ll be getting some for our room, too. The Amazon Basics one has still been in use in a pinch as well, with more suction cups broken off because of the weak grommets that hold them in. I plan to replace the AB one with a Sunaway one and keep the AB one in its bag “just in case” for travel, only because it’s a bit bigger, light weight and I already have it. I don’t see that the company has made any of the suggested changes or more options for size or color yet. An improvement we’ve made is to use magnetic tie backs to hold them open during the day—that way we’re not taking them down and putting them up each nap or bedtime with the way we use them at home. The suction cups on the top and side stay in place on the window at all times. We got the all-black, rope-wrapped tie backs here on Amazon from a brand called Hangtty. They can hang on a small command hook placed on the side of the window frame when not in use during the night, or they just slide down and hang on a suction cup while the curtain is closed. We also learned that when we close them (with double-paned windows that slide open with a screen on one side) if we suction one curtain crossed over the middle of the window so it suctions on the opposite pane, and then just pull the other curtain overlapping it on top the other way, it takes care of any light gaps in the middle. Overall, still the best blackout option out there—unless you’re able to pay a heck of a lot more for Otterspace or Sleepout curtains. UPDATE and PLOT TWIST! I've been meaning to update my review. I missed the return window (due to the chaos of moving), so I ended up applying this curtain in my son's room in our new apartment and have continued to use it next to the Amazon Basics one. I have to use both curtains on my son's window because the windows we have here are large, and neither one covers the whole thing (wish one did). I stand by most of what I said before, but with the size of these new windows, I find myself being more annoyed with the AB one, and prefer the Sun Away, so to five stars my review goes. Yes, there are needed improvements to the Sun Away, and I really hope the company takes feedback into account--this is a great product, and could be the makings of a fantastic product--however, the Sun Away now beats out Amazon Basics in my book. I said I'm going for function over form here, and that is so, but the form of this curtain has ended up being more functional than I originally thought. I think the Sun Away curtain still needs one more suction cup on each of the three sides, but I've also found that too many suction cups can be cumbersome. I find myself opening up the Sun Away each day to let light in and not wanting to touch the AB one because it's larger, but does not have the weight to allow the bottom to hang and still block light, and has to have so many of the little suction cups adjusted. On the Sun Away, the beautiful, heavy fabric hangs down with a weight that can block out all the light on the bottom on a window that is shorter than the length of the curtain, so I haven't had trouble with light leaks on the bottom, and it looks a lot prettier hanging down the way it does. Because of this, I now appreciate that the Sun Away curtain doesn't have suction cups along the bottom side. So, Sun Away, please add one more suction cup per side (or at least add one more on the two vertical sides and then increase the usability of the velcro along the top by adding more of it), and it would be awesome if you would offer a larger size of curtain! ORIGINAL REVIEW 2022: We’d been using an Amazon Basics portable travel curtain in the moon and stars print for some time before this, but wanted to try this more expensive version when it was on sale to compare. We use these to blackout the room for our son’s naps and sleep at night for all of us, and take them on trips as well. At first use of the Sun Away curtain, I loved the higher quality, heavy satin fabric and larger suction cups. When it came to actually applying it to the window, I noticed how much smaller it was. I knew it was smaller than the Amazon Basics one, which is why I didn’t buy it over AB one in the first place—however, I found that curtain size wasn’t the only con. Unlike the AB one, the Sun Away one doesn’t have suction cups all the way around, and there aren’t enough of them. One of the shorter sides has no suction cups, so it has to hang vertically with that side hanging at the bottom, which makes it less versatile for different size and shape windows. The Velcro in between the cups also has too much space between it and the suction cups, which doesn’t allow you to adjust and get a good blackout on various sizes of windows. It does look and feel a bit nicer, but I’m looking for function over form here, so I’m returning and getting another Amazon Basics one in solid black. Also, I had no issues of off-gassing or chemical smells with either of these curtains. Wish someone would come out with a good Oeko-Tex certified one, though. Pictures show both curtains on split screen windows with curtains while we travelled, and then one just showing the light leaks during a nap (the one with the greater light leak on the right is the Sun Away, due to less adjustability on the top and bottom).

The suction cups are surprisingly strong. They grip the glass really well and stay put the whole night without peeling off. I’ve used it in everything from high-rise hotels to older rentals, and it hasn’t failed me yet. The setup takes just a couple of minutes, and once it’s up, the room is completely dark. It makes a world of difference for getting solid rest, especially when traveling across time zones. I can honestly say I’ve gotten my money’s worth. For the price, the amount of use I’ve gotten out of it, better sleep, easier travel with kids, and not having to worry about light ruining my rest, has been more than worth it. It’s one of those products that I now pack every single time I leave home.
