Suprise
I wasn't expecting to much from this. After all, how much can 5.5 watts do? Well I found out it can do quite a bit and I'm very happy with the module.

It's a very nice low power laser
Works just fine, and for an intro laser on a small CNC it works great. It isn't going to do any serious cutting, so just get that right out of your head. It can cut paper, and cardstock. The woods it can cut are so thin that trust me, you don't have any (a couple mm max). It is great for engraving on wood, tile (using some tricks that the internet is happy to teach you) and some other light materials. It can mark dull stainless steel (not bright) using tricks the internet can teach you. Mostly its great for engraving on wood. There are techniques for glass, but I haven't tried them -- However I believe they work. For the cost, its a good unit, it always works as expected and delivers consistent results. Really for a beginner, thats the most important thing.

Junk and quite working after one design
This product is way overpriced for the quality of it. I used it to only do one small image which was about 2in X 3in and took the laser off to try the engraver and when I put it back on it would not burn any designs anymore. The laser would fire and the head would move as if it was doing something but when done it had not made even the slightest mark on the wood. I would just save your money and not waste time by getting a little bigger setup and put a little more money into it

The laser was returned because I later found out it wasn’t the right one for my machine.
It was the wrong one for the machine that I have.

Wiring was wrong
We were could only get a <5V reading. When we looked at the wiring we saw that the wires were not consistent from one end to the other. The black wire went from the middle of the connector on one side to the end of the other connector. We were unable to get the laser to turn on because of this.

never got it to work
spent days trying to get this to work, nothing worked bought a Sclupfun laser and was up and running in three minutes. My advice is don't try to get a CNC to work like a laser, just go out and buy a dedicated laser for the same amount of money.
