How many hours of music can this hold

Depends on format, sampling, bitrate. I've got 818 songs at standard 44 KHz and 128 kbps totaling 3144 minutes and 2.81 GB which comes out to 0.89 MB/minute. I've also got 430 songs at 192 kbps totaling 1595 minutes and 2.13 GB which is 1.34 MB/minute (which is also what you get ratioing 0.89 by 192 / 128 so the numbers jibe). If your songs are typical 128 kbps stereo quality, and average 4 minutes each, then (using the 0.89 MB/minute figure) each TB will hold roughly: 1,000,000 MB / 0.89 MB/min / 60 min/hr = about 18,700 hours ==> over EIGHTEEN THOUSAND HOURS OF MP3 FOR JUST ONE (1) TB. Even if all your songs are 24-bit 44 KHz WAV originals at 15 MB/minute, you'd still be able to store: 0.89/15 x 18,000 = over 1,000 hours of WAV for each TB. Suffice to say if you're saving only MP3s you probably won't run out of space, as the others have stated.

Can you use this for PS4?

I had this hard drive for awhile as a spare backup drive in my PC. I plugged it into the front port of my PS4 and instantly gained 4TB of space. It requires no extra power source, the PS4 will format it and you can play games on it just the same as installing to your HDD inside the PS4. I don't notice any speed issues on my PRO, it runs the same speed. It's perfect to stop you from having to shuffle games off and on the limited 1TB in the system.

What is the warranty? i can't find any info on it at seagate except that there isn't a warranty via seagate based on the serial number i entered.

One year's warranty is b.s. I've had mine for less than one year and it's already died. Can't get it covered because the damned thing is made in Thailand and the serial numbers are smudged so they can't ID it as mine, thus it's not covered. Aholes. DO NOT get a Seagate. Customer service is shi'ite. Whatever you do get extend the warranty as long as possible, and back up your back up.

Seagate is certainly sending mixed messages with the supplied information on this item’s page. In the “Details” section, it states for ‘Hard Disk Interface’, USB 3.0 is what’s required. Next, under the “From the Manufacturer” section, ‘Compatibility’ is now claimed to be USB 3.0/2.0. Once again, under “Other Technical Details”, the ‘Hard Disk Interface’ lists USB 3.0 as the required connection. Finally, if you open the ‘User Manual’ (PDF) under “Product Guides and Documents” and go to section 2 under “Contents” (page 5) you will find the following highlighted: “You can connect your Seagate device to a USB-C port on your computer. The USB-C port must support USB 3.0 or higher. A USB micro-B to USB-C cable is not included with this device.” Suddenly, you must now have USB-C to use this product. That’s odd, because I didn’t recall seeing USB-C mentioned once in the product description. Seagate: Get your act together.

Impressive performance

I had low expectations about the speed of this HDD. But to my surprise I am getting a sold 200 to 250MBPS write speed. Such speed is similar to SSD external speed that ranged from 500 down to 100 maps, the Seagate is actually giving a similar performance.

Genuine only that....

I love the fact and ease of setting up the encryption lock and the provided factory reset code. Problem is if the original cable provided get missing💥, can't use normal USB cables to view or manage your data.

I’ve been using the Seagate Portable 4TB External Hard Drive for a few weeks now and honestly it’s been exactly what I needed. Setup was super simple — literally plug it in and it works. No complicated software, no weird formatting issues. I’m using it mainly with my PC but I’ve also tested it on my PlayStation and it worked without any problems. The 4TB storage is a huge plus. I backed up my entire system image, stored a ton of video files, and still have plenty of space left. Transfer speeds over USB 3.0 are solid — not lightning fast like an SSD obviously, but for a traditional HDD it’s more than fast enough for backups, media storage, and games. It’s lightweight and small, which surprised me. I expected something bulkier for 4TB. It doesn’t get hot and it runs quietly. I just leave it connected most of the time. If you need reliable, large storage for backups, gaming, or just extra space, this is a great value for the price. No complaints so far. Would definitely buy again.
