Very useful for anyone medically involved with dentistry or dental claims. British publication, some terms in British English.
I am an RN case manager of complex trauma claims. They involve dental issues quite often. This was a very interesting read for me as nursing education does not prepare one for dental claims or causation issues. I found the Q and A aspects helpful as a test of my working knowledge. The book does contain some British terms so be aware you may need to tweak them a bit in your reading if you are American. I really like that this book illuminates areas that none of my other references cover. Excellent resource for medical professionals who need to understand dental health and procedures.

Pertinent and focused
Hugh Devlin's "Review Questions for Dentistry" is exactly as described. It is a book of review questions on various dental topics and then the answers. It does seem to be geared towards UK dental practices but it also seems to be pertinent for any dental studies. It cuts to the chase so there isn't any distractions on the page which is nice.

A extremely indepth study aide for dentistry exams. Lots of multiple choice questions covering basic and complex dentistry; it is very technical so of little real use to anyone else but there is a trainee dentist within the extended family and she really rates the pitch and depth of these exam preparation questions so for dental students this is something to get your teeth into. Good luck.

Author, Hugh Devlin, described in the publisher's blurb as" Professor of Restorative Dentistry at the School of Dentistry, University of Manchester, UK and Associate Editor of the Journal of Prosthodontics and the journal Gerodontology'. Obviously a well qualified author whose expertise in the area of exam practice and preperation for undergraduate dentistry students and post-grad candidates sitting their OREs is based on hard practice and years of hand's on experience. Despite being a modest 200 pages, there is more than enough therein to coach the student through the exam stages and highlight those important areas which can be undervalued and brushed over when in fact they are of equal importance to areas more readily associated with successful exam outcomes.

Thanks to negative marking, I was often heavily penalised while doing these when I was at uni doing a BDS degree. I would often skim read questions, then use my pencil to mark the answer that looked about right. (It was kind of like doing the lottery — the way you used your pencil to select your answers.) But getting negative marks for each wrong answer made this a foolish strategy. It's really, really important to read and then re-read the question! You might see a statement that's definitely correct BUT it's not the best response to the question. This book really helps you re-evaluate the thought processes that you use when deciding on the correct answer. You have to appreciate how info is used in clinical practice. There are loads of practice MCQs. I like that every answer is supported using the best current research evidence available. This is a very thin and light book. It's mostly text. (So initially you might be like “woah whys this £20?”, but of course it's a specialist book so you'll just have to suck it up..) The font is a good size — it is easy to read.

EXAMS ====== There are quite a few review guide books for sitting exams. This is actually a good exam aid with answers and questions. It is written for undergraduate dentistry students PROS ===== Short Easy to read Well laid out Really useful Can dip in and out of it CONS ===== There are some guides that are just as good that are available on a course. GUIDE ====== My niece is training in dentistry and she said, "I really like this. Although I've had some revision guide this is nice in the style of question and has some useful analysis." OVERALL ======== Useful.

A slim and very useful prep book for dentistry students. You get plenty of test questions to work through [answers included] which are clearly presented and well organised so you can work intuitively through them at your own pace. Access to a good companion website too that gives an extra dimension to the book, giving you extra self-assessment tools and the like. Good package all round.
