The Right Part
Exactly what I needed to attach my external Western Digital 4T to my M1 desktop. Better than an adapter. My computer is backing up successfully all day and all night.

100% Satisfaction for a SEAGATE user.
It's 2019, and we Apple tech-users are in the throes of yet another "find an adapter" upheaval. If you're like me, you've got 1 (or more) SEAGATE backup hard drives that you need to frequently access. You may have already spent an hour ruminating through the Amazon listings for cables for your new Apple product(s) (USB-C? Alas, Lightning, we hardly knew ye!) to keep your peripherals compatible. I swear, it's a conspiracy against the consumer... I spent HOURS 1 night, looking for about 6 new cables/adapters to integrate my new MacBook Pro (with its x4 USB-C ports ONLY), and this cable is the option I finally settled on (read: "took a chance with"). I figured I'd log back in and give my recommendations on what I got, and (maybe) save you a few hours sleep in your own search. (Maybe it's too late at this point, sorry.) So here's where I need to shut up & just get on with it: > COMPATIBILITY: this product is (in my experience) 100% compatible with a setup which comprises a current model Apple laptop and either a 1TB (or 2TB) "Seagate Backup Plus Slim" backup drive. Moreover, the 12 inch length (from tip-to-tip) is perfect for desktop/tabletop use, as it doesn't leave extra cordage lying around to get tangled up in. It's just long enough to tuck out of sight behind the monitor and/or to pick up the unit for easy plugging & unplugging. > I can't speak to "DURABILITY" yet, because I have only had this a month. I don't travel with it; it's only for my home office use. But I can't imagine having any problems with this piece of equipment, longterm. It should outlast that old factory cable. > STURDINESS: oh yeah. Two thumbs way up. This cable is far superior to the original equipment that came with my Seagate(s). We cable-searchers are really looking for 3 things (aside from length), aren't we? The stylish braided cable jacket, the metal plug housings, and the molded segments that protect the joints (between cable & plug) are all top-notch on this cable. > VALUE: for $7.50, I feel like I got a great deal. I won't be having to find a replacement for this anytime soon! (Oh crap--I've just jinxed us all, haven't I?) I hope you get a similarly good deal. > VERDICT: I have no regrets with this product. I wholeheartedly recommend it to you. I would buy the whole range of adapting cables from this brand (i.e. USB-C to: Lightning/USB/Micro-USB/etc.), if they were available.

It works
These cables are very stiff. I wish they were more flexible. They seem durable, but time will tell. I haven’t noticed any connectivity issues, so that’s good. They did not affect transfer speeds on my external HDD. I was hoping to eek out a bit more transfer speed, but it clocks between 120-130 mbps read/write which is slightly faster than the advertised speeds, but within 1-3 mbps of the OEM cable. All in all a good buy, but it won’t help transfer speeds, and it could be a lot more flexible. It was tough to get this repositioned because of how rigid it is.

Works perfectly
Purchased for a computer and laptop to utilize a brand new 4TB HDD that came with a USB 3.0 cord. This one works way better than the provided cord and is a perfect length. Out of curiosity, I tested the cord it came with versus this purchased cord. The cord that came with the HDD got about 30 mbps transfer speed, on average, transferring a large music and video library. This cord got around 80 mbps and as high as 98 mbps. Obviously there are other factors to consider but the cord really increased the transfer speed dramatically.

Does not work well with Macs UPDATE
Please note that the 5 Star Review is to negate my previous 1 star review — but as I returned the item, as I found the packaging — I can’t give it a fair review, and there is a greater issue involved. While the cable indeed didn’t work with my MacBook and while the Amazon branded cable did work, after ordering Amazon’s Micro-D to USB C cable my MacBook kept crashing again. However, the Amazon cable that does work is a Micro-D USB to USB A — which connects to my MacBook USB C port via a dongle. In other words there is a problem with the older style Micro-D to USB C cables — regardless of the manufacturer. I don’t know why the new Seagate drive also has Micro-D and not USB C which seems to becoming the standard, but the USB C ports on my MacBook don’t like to directly connect to a device with Micro-D — but again, using a Micro-D to USB A cable (connected to a dongle that plugs into my USB C port) works fine. *** I bought a new External to replace several older and slower backup drives, but my MacBook kept crashing. I thought perhaps the issue was with the older drives not liking the faster speed that this cable can support, but it also caused a crash when connected to the new external drive. At the same time I purchased another length that is Amazon-branded, but that cable works perfectly with the both old and new drives. Perhaps the cable was just part of a bad batch or perhaps it works better with Windows, but I wished I had saved the bag for a return.

Bought this cable to improve the access speed of photos stored on a 4TB external HDD. Though my laptop has an SS port, access had been painfully slow with the USB 3 cable that was included with the HDD, rendering the HDD unusable for anything but mere backup. Access speed improved noticeably after connecting through my laptop's USB-C port and this USB-C cable, enabling me to access photos on the external HDD both for review and for editing purposes. Size of cable ordered (1ft) proved ideal for me personally.

El cable es un producto muy útiles para conectar discos duros externos a mí computadora a través del puerto USB C de alta velocidad, es muy resistente y soporta las flexiones y torciones.
