NSECT Review
This is one of the most interesting and entertaining Remote Control items I have ever purchased. I have what I call my "Grandfathers' Toy Chest", that I purchase the toys, or relatives purchase them for me, for inclusion in my Toy Chest. (Of Course I play with all the toys before they co in the Chest to ensure their "FUN FACTOR". This way when my grandchildren come to visit the love going into my Toy Chest and playing with the best toys for many years ago. I have many of the "hot toys" furbies, R/C Plane, Helicopter and Boat as well as a R/C Dinosaur and many other toys in the Chest.

Defective firing mechanism
I purchased this RC NSECT for my son for Christmas. Initially looked great out of the box. It is large and looks somewhat intimidating. Movement is fine, and the remote control is logical. Unfotunately, the darts would not fire; it just makes a clicking noise. I contacted Mattel, who told me that the wrong dats were sent with the unit, and that they would ship out the correct ones to rectify the problem (apparently over 3 million had already been sent). Needless to say, the new darts did not improve perfomance, and I ended up returning the product to Amazon. A little quality control from Mattel could prevent disappointing some kids over the holidays

It'll put you in a better mood, ridiculously.
I bought one of these on auction through another web site. It is fun , easy to use, and its just all around cool. It said in the advertising "sneak up on friends " lol, good luck, even hellen keller could sense this thing presence. It is alot bigger that I expected.

Son HAD to have it -- EXPENSIVE and LOUD
My son ONLY asked for this for Christmas, so I had to get it. It doesn't do much -- he was bored with it within a few days. It shoots the harmless "bullets" pretty far, but not easily aimed. The pincher on our first one didn't work so we had to send it back for a replacement. Pincher STILL isn't very strong & basically just pushes things around rather than carry them -- it doesn't "lift" objects, just grabs them & drags them around--and you have to hold a button continuously to hold the object. And LOUD -- VERY LOUD -- the legs hit the floor VERY hard (though I haven't noticed any scratches on the floor). We have a small house & you can hear the bug from one end to the other. I would NOT buy this again. There are MUCH more interactive RC toys out there.

Not bad while it lasted
I bought two of these for my nephew for Christmas '06. The idea was that he and I (or he and his dad) could play with them together and have battles. Unfortunately, one of them arrived with a broken gun. The internal cylinder used to generate the air pressur for firing was cracked and, thus, did not work. On the other hand, the toy with the working gun fired REALLY FAR. I was impressed by its range. The controls for raising and lower the cannon were simple, but sometimes caused issues by getting stuck between the wings or, if the cannon was positioned at a lower angle, it would sometimes spontaniously lower back below the wings without hitting the control. Occasionally, the toys would get stuck in "attack mode" and would require a reset. After only one day of play, it became painfully clear that the mechanisms that move the toys were not very robust. When the bugs run into something, the gears that move the legs skip teeth on the worm gears that are powered by the motors inside. This doesn't seem to be a problem at first, but after about a day of running into stuff and getting the toys stuck, one of the toys started to go limp on one side. The worm gear for that side had worn down from the skipping and was no longer any good. It would have been much better if the worm gears had some give to allow them to skip teeth on the leg gears without wearing down. Trust, this thing is going to skip teeth... a lot... especially if you are running them into each other when battling. It was a fun toy while it lasted, but just not built to last through the kinds of play a to which a 9-year-old is going to subject it. The robustness is disappointing considering the price tag.

Nice little beast
I have to say when I got this thing today, I had expected something about 1/2 its size. This thing is great lol. Shoots the little nerf darts out to 20 to 25 feet with great velocity and good arcing. There was one area I thought was alittle incorrect. The box that it comes in says you can sneak up on unsuspecting victims. LOL I would agree with that statement providing you are in a concert hall listening to a loud band or near a herd of Amish people building a barn. LOL. Otherwise the only people you will sneak up on will be deaf people. Aside from that realy minor detail this thing is great. I think it even has alittle personality as well. lol The grapler can move empty coke cans with ease. Ill know more when I start tormenting the little critters at my house.

Great with one modification
I love the insect action of this toy. As noted, the missile firing is problematic. It's hard to determine the specific problem from some of the reviews. My issue turned out to be that the insect wings were too heavy and preventing the cannon from fully rising. A quick fix was to unscrew the head plate (three screws), remove the wings (held by two plastic brackets using two screws each), and then reattach the head plate. I wasn't too keen on the wings to begin with, and I like the appearance with the cannon visible at all times. A very fun toy!

frustrated mom
Well, out of three, only one works. I had bought both of my boys each one for Christmas. The first two were from target. the blue one works well. It's really cool and no issues. The green one wouldn't fire the bullets so I returned it and ordered a new one from Amazon. The new green one came in and it doesn't work at all. Power goes to both the bug and remote but the remote will not work the bug. My poor son is begging for me to fix it. Meanwhile the two are fighting over the blue one, not to mention, now I have to figure out how to return it to amazon without it costing me any more money. Basically it's cool if it works but mattel may be shipping defective bugs just to meet the demand at Christmas time.
