Mostly lives up to the hype
I had doubts about spending this much for a fan, but would say it has been worth it. The variable speed control lets you adjust all the way down to completely silent, while still getting a nice mild breeze. It also lets you turn it up high power when needed, or to fine tune it to the level of noise that doesn't bother you anymore. The cord "feels" a little short at times, as the DC power supply in the middle needs to sit on something to support it. The smaller DC cord from the power supply to the fan seems like it might be a little fragile, or that the connector at the end may be susceptible to damage, but mine is doing just fine, despite how it looks. It really does hold a nice column of air. letting you "shoot" the air for a longer distance. I would judge the Vornado claims as 30% hype and 70% truth, which is pretty good in my book. I was expecting higher ratio of hype, given their glowing claims. I can confirm the lower power draw for this DC fan. It is most noticeable at the lower settings, where I can still get a decent breeze on just 2 or 3 Watts, instead of getting a wimpy breeze for 15 or 20W from my other fans on their lowest settings. The savings are less pronounced at full power, but it still draws about 30% less that any other fan I have in the house for an equivalent breeze. I expect it will take about 7 years for the energy savings to pay for the price difference, but the infinitely variable speed by itself is almost worth the price difference. I find myself gong over to nudge the speed up a little or down a little several time a day. There's definitely something to be said for infinite speed control (and basically infinite noise control). Two or three speeds for a fan is very crude by comparison. If it's just a little too loud, I turn it down just a little. If it is just not quite enough air flow, I just turn it up a little. No more choosing between too little air or full-blown hurricane any more. It can be as quiet as I want it to be, or blow just as hard as I want it, or anywhere in-between. I got it to be "greener" and save energy, and because I enjoy "quality" stuff over throw-away stuff. This fills the bill on both counts, and the improved performance over my old fans is a very nice bonus feature. No quality problems so far, it has held up to me kicking it over in the dark a few times (too quiet to notice in the dark, but light enough to not hurt my toes too badly), and it is balanced nearly to perfection, so runs very smoothly. It still feels expensive, but is maybe worth it, or at least worth a good portion of the extra cost. I'm not ready to spend that much for all of my fans yet, but getting one of these for my highest usage fan has worked out well.

LOVE IT!!! It's Almost TOO MUCH AIR!
I recently moved into a beautiful old house with no central air or heat. I was dreading the stifling summer heat I suffered through last year with the fan I found in the basement, but not this year. I broke down and bought myself a Vornado! Let me preface this by saying that I don't buy anything but Vornado. This fan does not disappoint. It's quiet, tough as nails, it's CLEANABLE, and it lasts for years. But beyond that, the air flow is so good, it's almost TOO MUCH AIR for me. Which is crazy, because in a house with no central air, there's no such thing as too much air. It's so good that I'm getting a standing Vornado for my screened-in porch so I can enjoy the outdoors without roasting to death. It's not a small desk fan but it's not too big either. It fits comfortably on my night table. I unboxed it and turned it on high like I usually do with every other fan, and it blasted me out of the room. Seriously, I WAS FREEZING! I had to turn it on low to find the sweet spot. It's just April, so it's wonderful to know I've got room to grow with this fan as the summer heat approaches. It's whisper quiet on the low setting. Best of all, even on low, it's bouncing air off my walls and creating a lovely cross-breeze. You feel cool circulating air everywhere in the room! All I'll need come August is a burst of cold air from the window-unit air conditioner, and combined with my blackout curtains, this fan will keep my bedroom cold. I'm SO looking forward to my lower energy bills. The fan is pricy, to be sure. It's a Vornado. But when you turn it on I guarantee, you WILL know where that money went. If you need a good fan, buy THIS ONE! Don't wait. It's worth every single penny.

One fan to rule them all!
For about 30 years, I have had a 8"-10" fan mounted on the wall above my side of the bed to keep my head cool. The 8" personal-type fans tend to be noisier and are only made to last a few years when using them 50% of the time, but they also have slower speeds when you just want lighter breeze. I did those for the first 20, but 10 years ago, I bought a travel voltage converter and a 10" higher-velocity fan, then set the voltage on the converter to 220, which forces the fan to run at half speeds. This actually works pretty well, but there were times I wanted the full speeds so I eventually made a switch to go between the converter and regular power, giving me 6 speeds; 3 slow and 3 fast with no "middle" speeds. The voltage converter recently died and I felt it was time to look at what was available regarding variable speed fans. I took the leap and spent the money on this one and I'm very happy with the result. I felt way better about my purchase when I saw that this fan is FULLY made in Kansas, USA. The speed on the lowest setting is pretty low and I will likely be able to just leave it at that at night most of the year. I love that I can easily bump it up to higher speeds when I need to really cool off, which is often, going into summer. This fan doesn't have mounting holes, but the simple solution was a couple of 1 1/2" 2-hole straps, which are under $2 at your local big box hardware store in the the conduit section. I included a picture to show how I did it. The title of this review wrote itself when I thought back on the 5-6 fans used over 30 years. This fan offers near silence at low speeds but also can push as much air as I could ever want at the mere turn of the dial. Brilliant! Good work, Kansas! I am a big fan of your... fans ;)

Powerful, Efficient, and Quiet — Worth Every Penny
The Vornado 610DC Energy Smart Air Circulator Fan has exceeded my expectations. It moves air much more effectively than typical fans, creating a steady, whole-room breeze without feeling noisy or harsh. The DC motor is impressively energy-efficient — I can leave it running all day without worrying about my electric bill. The design is solid and durable, and the controls are intuitive. It’s perfect for bedrooms, living rooms, or offices and noticeably improves airflow even in larger spaces. If you want a fan that’s both powerful and energy smart, this one delivers. Highly recommend!

I'm a fan of this great fan! Go for it!
I've owned a Vornado space heater for about 5 years now and have loved it! I've owned other space heaters in the past which just weren't as good the Vornado. Yea, I know - 1500 watts is 1500 watts, but since the Vornados heat the air and circulate it evenly around the room instead of just using radiant heat, the difference is very noticeable. I live on the central west coast area of Florida in a 1 BR apt, and have found that I only very rarely need any supplemental heating during the winter when using the Vornado space heater I own. The overnight temps here rarely fall below mid-high 30's, and 40's to 50's is average during winter. Of course, being that it's a subtropical climate here, we have many more months of hot temps here during the year than cold. I sometimes joke that we have only two seasons here. Summer for 8 months and Fall/Spring for 4. With that in mind, I've been wanting to get one of the Vornado air circulators for awhile now, so I finally sprung for this one a couple of months ago. I'm glad I did. After doing a bit of research on their various models, I settled on the 610DC Energy Smart model. It was about $40 more than the comparable sized AC motor model, but I figured it would more than make up the difference in energy savings in the long run. Plus I really like the variable speed motor and the warranty was double the 5 yrs. of the AC version. Really, who else guarantees any of their products for 10 years anymore? Only a company that makes a superior product and has confidence that they will last that long. In just the first full month of usage, it has already paid about 20% of its cost in my lower electric bill. My normal electric bill has consistently been $61-63 during July and Aug keeping the thermostat at 80 during the day, 76-77 while I'm home and awake, and 75 while I'm sleeping. With the Vornado I now keep the thermostat about 82 during the day, and about 78-79 the rest of the time, and I'm actually MORE comfortable than I was before I bought the fan. I had expected my electric bill after the first full month of using this fan (July) to be maybe $10 less than normal. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was right at $20 less this past month at $43 and the fan stays on 24/7. Nothing else changed in my normal electricity usage pattern during this time other than using the Vornado and keeping my thermostat higher. My electric bill has NEVER been that low in the summer and is only that low during seasons when no heat or A/C is needed, and even then, usually only when I've been out of town for a week of vacation with the hot water heater turned off. I keep the speed up around med-high while awake and keep the fan in my hallway outside my bedroom facing the living room and my couch (10-12 ft. away) and just shift it a couple of feet to the doorway facing the bed and turn it to med-low when sleeping. This placement in a central hallway location means I don't have to unplug it and move it to a different outlet for waking and sleeping hours. As others have stated, the fan isn't exactly silent (except maybe on the very lowest settings,) but the sound levels are very low compared to other fans especially on low to medium settings and even on higher settings, it isn't obtrusive enough to interfere with hearing TV, music or conversations. For the amount of air it pushes it is relatively quiet compared to other fans so the sound levels have not been a problem for me. Yesterday the fan got a real life test to see just how much air it could move and how quickly. I was searing a beef roast covered with spices on high heat in olive oil in a cast iron skillet on my stove and it was smoking up the apt like crazy in no time flat. The smoke alarms all started going off and the place looked like it was on fire and I was coughing my head off from all the smoke. (The fan in the hood on my stove doesn't exhaust to the outside, but just blows the smoke around inside instead, making it completely useless.) I opened my sliding glass door halfway and put the Vornado in front of it on max speed, exhausting the smoke to the outside. Within 10 min the apartment (~780 Sq. Ft.) was clear of smoke. I was highly impressed with how quickly it did this. The bottom line? Vornado products rock! Don't settle for less. They're worth the extra expense compared to inferior products. You really do get what you pay for, and it won't take you long to forget all about how much more you paid vs. a cheapo fan. Oh and by the way, the roast turned out excellent. Yum! P.S. This was NOT a paid review nor was I given the product free of charge or at a reduced charge to review. It is 100% my own honest unbiased review on this product which I paid full price for. Update - 10/6/17. I have loved this air circulator since I bought it but after using it for only about 3 months, the circulator started producing a loud and annoying knocking sound within the motor which was intermittent, yet persistent, and most pronounced on med to lower speeds and was much louder than the fan noise itself, although the fan itself still worked fine. The knocking sound frequency corresponded exactly with the RPMs of the motor, leaving no doubt as to the source of the problem. Taking off the cover and blade and cleaning it did not produce any improvement. I could also grab the motor spindle and it would move from side to side around 1-2 mm. when I wiggled it. My suspicion was that there was defective bearing(s) within the motor, although I could definitely be wrong on this point. I will update this review after receiving my repaired fan or replacement unit from the company. I may have just gotten a rare bad apple in the bunch, and am willing to give the company the benefit of the doubt at this point, but I am very pleased that the company is standing behind their product without any hassle whatsoever. I contacted customer service at the company earlier this week, and they promptly sent me a pre-paid UPS label to return the fan to their Kansas headquarters for repair. (Fortunately, I kept the original shipping box.) They actually assemble this model there in Andover, KS at their U.S. headquarters instead of China, so they say they have replacement parts on hand. So far so good, although I must say that I was a bit disappointed that a top-of-the-line $100 fan started giving me problems after such a short period of time after buying it (even though I admit it stays on 24/7 since I bought it.) Customer service was very prompt and very professional in their response, so I have no fault with them on that point. I just hope they are able to fix my problem. Will post a later update to let you know how effectively they did. In the meantime, I feel it is only fair and honest to downgrade my review from 5 to 4 stars, due to this unexpected problem which occurred far too soon after purchasing it. If I get a prompt and satisfactory resolution to my problem, I will likely move it back to 5 stars. Update 11/3/17 - I must say that my customer service/warranty experience with Vornado was excellent. As noted above, I had to send the fan back to the company for service after owning it only a few months. They shipped the repaired fan (same serial #) back out to me the very next business day after they received it! They had to replace the motor. No problems since then. Thanks Vornado! I'm still keeping my rating at 4 stars instead of moving it back to 5, only because the motor proved to be defective within such a short period of time since its purchase, and I expected far better longevity than that. I know this review has become much longer than I originally intended, and thanks for hanging in there for all my ramblings, but allow me one last closing comment. The cheapo 20" diameter box fan backup I had to use as a temporary replacement (normally use only outside on my patio in summer when I'm out there, as I often am) while the Vornado was being repaired was VASTLY inferior in performance to the 9" diameter Vornado 610DC. There is absolutely no comparison between them as the Vornado's performance blows away (pun intended) the performance of the much larger size cheapo fan. Vornado has gained another customer for life with me.

Expensive, but quiet and effective
In our area it can get quite warm in the summer, so I bought this fan (the "610DC - Energy Smart" version) for our bedroom to give us a breeze at night. I am very sensitive to noise, even the continuous hum of a fan, so having a low-noise fan in the bedroom is very important to me and I am happy to say that this fan doe not disappoint. Yes, on the highest setting it is louder than I could tolerate, but the fan has a completely variable speed control, so I can dial the speed and noise in to exactly the level that works for me. The fan uses a DC motor and thus it is much more energy-efficient than my old Vornado fan with an AC motor. Overall I am very pleased with this fan. I wish it was less expensive, but I suppose you get what you pay for, at least in this case.

Best way to cool a room!
We bought this fan when our A/C gave out in the bedroom and we had to wait 3 weeks to get a new one. I was incredibly impressed at how well this fan was able to keep us cool enough at night to sleep! This is definitely one powerful fan that is able to move air efficiently through a medium-sized room. The dial on the unit allows total control of speed, unlike other fans that only have 3 speeds. The lower end of the speed dial produces gentle airflow with almost no sound. On the higher end of the dial, the fan does make a typical air-blowing noise but I consider this great "white noise" at night to block out exterior sounds (we live in NYC). Overall, I highly recommend this fan whether it is used with the a/c on to better move the air around the room or without an A/C just to keep cool!

Vornado fans are the very best
Vornado has some of the best fans available today. I already have 3 and couldn't refuse another one since the price was so reasonable. I previously saw this fan for almost $80 and this one was on sale for $55.20 plus tax for a total of $60.10 with free shipping. Although not that big, they are powerful "air circulating" fans with 3 speeds, can be opened for cleaning, and come with a FIVE YEAR satisfaction guarantee/warranty. The booklet actually says "We expect this product to be perfect. If you're not satisfied with this product, let us know." I have had 2 of these fans for over ten years and haven't had any problems (I do clean them yearly). I highly recommend Vornado fans.
