OTC 4534 Multi Purpose Bearing and Pulley Puller Set

I was a little concerned that this puller wouldn't be up to the task of pulling differential side bearings. They can be a real bear to get off. The negative reviews had me worried. Nothing to worry about. This puller was more than up to the task. Absolutely no drama...exactly the way I like it! No damage to the bearings either. It bent the shims up a bit, but that's to be expected, The puller's build quality is excellent. Nice satin finish (maybe chrome?). No sharp edges. Push screw is nicely machined. I chose the OTC 4534 over the OTC 4520 because I figured the flexibility was worth a few bucks more. The mid-sized arms of this kit appears to be identical to the OTC 4520. I did have to machine my own step adapter plate, but that took 10-minutes on the lathe and some scrap metal from the bin. If your differential has recesses cut into the case for a puller, this is the way to go. Highly recommended!

Item worked great! Put this item under a lot of pressure, held up to the task.

I have Snap On at work, (diesel repair shop) but they are pricey ($695 for set CJ2002). I bought this OTC set for at home. They work good, but just don't have that good feel like the older OTC tools we have at work do. This set is made in Taiwan. I just got the set, and have used it already, and it works good. I just wish it had the superior feel and was marked like the OTC tools of old. There are no markings on the set at all, not even on the crossbars, which used to be marked OTC and have a part number on them.

This is just like the set some name brand tool trucks sell for more money . Sturdy built does just like it should

. . . as expected, the product is made in Taiwan. However I must say quality control and fit and finish is quite outstanding. The silver finish on the puller arms seem to be a very durable satin coating (probably chrome), not a paint. The advantage of this puller kit is the arms are held securely against the gear or pulley and won't fly off like the cheapo gear pullers on the market. At least by being imported, OTC prices these products so they are affordable by homeowners and not just pros.

Same as the snap on version for a fraction of the price.

I needed a puller with enough reach to grab the inner races of a Toyota P/U rear end differential. The standard auto supply store pullers didn't have the necessary reach I needed. This kit will definitely get used in the shop.

I would like to start out by saying, I feel that I have a very good idea of what to expect since I have recently purchaced many (maybe 15 different) OTC sets including the larger version of this set. I expected to be equally impressed and only size would be the difference... these were my thoughts... at first sight I was happy to see a very nice good sized (expected size) sturdy white box with two factory bands. I was shocked to see that half the box was taken up by an air bladder... I felt cheated before I even opened the tiny box for the price compared to sets owned... At this point I will only state the facts I noticed right away upon opening... 1st. Only 4 of 6 flange bolts are high grade. The longest and thinest two appear to be of a lower grade unless I am mistaken. 2nd. The larger of the two H bars has only one side of the pin holes countersunk and the smaller H bar has both sides unfinished... It took me a minute to pinpoint what it was that gave them a cheap low quality look. It appears like someone just forgot that step 3rd. The arms are very close in size to each other and the over all range seemed more redundant than usefull... in my opinion this set felt disappointing or over priced for what you got compared to every other owned. I think if the quality was up to par and didnt notice so many things to cut cost or quality control I would have given 4-5 stars but I feel disapointed and sorry I ordered this last set
