I bought this 51-lumen black light flashlight specifically to locate scorpions at night, and it works well for the job. What I liked: The UV brightness is strong enough to make scorpions fluoresce clearly at close to medium range. The beam is steady with no flicker, which makes scanning the ground much easier. Lightweight and simple to carry during night checks. Works immediately without any setup — just insert the batteries and go. Things to know: Best performance is within a few feet; it’s not designed for long-distance scanning. Fresh batteries make a noticeable difference in brightness, so it’s worth keeping spares on hand. Bottom line: A dependable UV flashlight that performs well for scorpion detection. If you need something compact and effective for nighttime searches, this is a solid choice.

I’m sure there are higher quality black lights out there, but for the price, this one is great. It does everything that I need it to do. I have had it for a few weeks now, and it works great. It shines brightly, and I have not experienced any issues.

SECOND UPDATE: About 6 months after I posted my last update, I unexpectedly received a package in the mail form this seller containing another UV flashlight. Apparently, the seller took seriously the reviews about the product not being able to detect dog urine and corrected it. Like the first flashlight I received, this one was very well made, with an all metal body and a good amount of heft to it, but best of all, it fulfills its promise of detecting dog urine. I give a lot of credit to the seller, who many months later reached out and corrected the problem, without prodding from me. Based on this experience I wouldn't hesistate to buy products from this seller in the future. More of the sellers on Amazon should be like this one. UPDATE: I see a lot of people responding to reviews that it doesn't work on dog urine that it will only work on dry stains and with good batteries. Let me reiterate, after extensive testing, this product doesn't work on wet or dry dog urine stains, with batteries fresh out of the package and with the light held as close as just a foot away. I suspect that many of the good reviews are fake, OR the flashlight is inconsistently manufactured, so some customers get flashlights with a UV wavelength that detects dog urine and others get a product of a different wavelength. I purchased this item for the sole purpose of detecting dog urine on our carpets, and it absolutely doesn't work for that purpose. The product is well made and it puts out a bright light, but it fails at one of its primary advertised purposes to detect dog urine. We did an experiment where we set up a dog training pad and watched as each of our three dogs use it. We used the light immediately after the dogs did their business, and then again a day later (in case it only worked on dry stains) . . . and nothing. It might serve other purposes for other people, but it doesn't serve the purpose of detecting dog urine. If you're looking for a product that does that, look elsewhere.

It's a good news bad news situation with this flashlight. Good news...the flashlight works great. In a dark room the urine spots show up very well and makes target spraying them easy. Bad news is...you have cat pee on your carpet and have to hunt it down. This light is a fair amount brighter than a similar model my wife bought.

Works as it should just not very bright. You definitely have to use it when room is dark in order for pet urine to show up. Works off of batteries just not very bright even in dark room. Very easy to use.
