This is my choice for a general gamepad
This is for the Xbox Core controller (Amazon has a history of mixing reviews of other models in) as they're coming off the production line in 2022. I own most every gamepad that currently exists on the market (Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, Valve, Amazon). While each has trade offs, knowing nothing about what you're doing with it, this would be my overall recommendation and favorite. +Uses batteries. Greatly prefer this myself. Can use rechargeables or a lithium ion battery pack if you want to. +Best compatibility with all devices and services. Official support on AppleTV, FireTV, Windows, iOS devices, Microsoft GamePass, etc. This is the strongest point for this controller. +Decent d-pad, not my favorite (that's the Playstation d-pad), but definitely a good one. +Easy firmware updates as long as you have an Xbox or Windows PC with the Xbox Accessories app. +Decent build quality. Not the best (again, that's the Playstation). +With latest firmware, very responsive Bluetooth experience for me on my FireTV Cube. Others are also good on this but worth mentioning. It's hard to update the Playstation and Nintendo gamepads if you're a mainly or only a PC gamer, an important point to keep in mind. For a PC gamer or someone who just needs the most widely supported controller, I say go with one of these. I had another one when the Xbox Series X was released and it seems the build quality may have improved since the early days. It feels good in my hands. While I have nearly every gamepad and won't comment on each of their tradeoffs here, because there really is no "best", just tradeoffs and what is "best for you". For PC and general use- I'd look at this and maybe the Luna controller. I do have the feeling the Luna will hold up longer compared to the Xbox Core controller. Longterm reliability is another point to consider that I won't try to judge here, but I will say that I've had best luck over time with my Playstation controllers compared to everything else.

Had a few issues with getting it to work, not sure if it was the controller or not (issue fixed)
Alright. So far, I am loving the controller. Now that it's working properly, anyway. One slight complaint with packaging, one real complaint that has to do with the controller itself, while other issues I had lay with the programs I was gaming with. Preface: I bought this controller to replace my old xbox 360 controller for PC gaming. Packaging: The box looked as if it were opened. A bit weird, but okay. Problems: Initially, the controller kept turning on and off, wouldn't connect properly and constantly shown to have low batteries ("critical" according to the Xbox game bar app...) despite having brand new ones put in. This is still an issue, but the battery is actually fine so I blame the Xbox game bar application for not sensing it right. On top of this issue, the button inputs for "A" and "B" were confused for keyboard inputs during in-game sessions (on Steam). Troubleshooting: I tested the controller via Xbox accessories app to make sure the inputs were working fine, and they were. Going to video guides and various forums I found out the battery problem was possibly caused by the clip bits that have the "+" and "-" signs on them being a bit too compressed, and gently pulling them out (to make sure they were holding the batteries securely and properly connected). As for the keyboard-gamepad input confusion, I went into Steam's settings and had to select the "Expanded Xbox Configuration support" and "Xbox Extended Feature Support" and subsequently had to restart my PC. After that, controller worked like a charm, and I am loving it. It was a bit taxing to do so much troubleshooting, I took the whole thing apart three times to check the motherboard against google images to make sure it was okay (haha). But in the end most of the issues had nothing to do with the controller, but just how it was being perceived by other programs. Just goes to show the issues may not be with the product but the stuff it interacts with.

If you're looking at this, it's time for a replacement.
Easy to connect and a high-quality controller. If you have thrown your controller as many times as I have, it is time for a new one, and why not get the classic Xbox controller? Looks great, and a new clean controller feels so good if you haven't replaced it in a while.

Rock Solid, But Pricey!
This controller is top-tier when it comes to comfort, responsiveness, and durability. The buttons feel great, the grip is solid, and the battery life lasts surprisingly long. However… it's not cheap, and I wish it came with rechargeable batteries instead of requiring AA batteries like it's 2005. ✔ Feels great in hand—ergonomic and comfortable. ✔ Buttons & triggers are responsive with no delay. ✔ Wireless connection is strong—no random disconnects. ✖ Requires AA batteries instead of rechargeable ones. ✖ Expensive, but still worth it for quality. ⭐ Great controller, but Microsoft, PLEASE make rechargeable batteries standard! ⭐
