desertcart.com: A Quiet Place [Blu-Ray] [Region Free] (English audio. English subtitles) : Movies & TV Review: Good movie, beautifully shot, loved the slow reveal of the monsters, very exciting and scary. - Very enjoyable movie, easily the best exploration of the concept I have ever seen cinematically of a monster that hunts by sound, where being quiet is the key to survival. When I first heard of the film, I thought at first it was a cinematic version of Tim Lebbon’s excellent _The Silence_, and then when hearing (sorry no pun intended) it wasn’t a filmed version but its own story, thought maybe it was too derivative. Happily, the movie and the book are truly unrelated. They share some similarities – both have a family where having a deaf girl daughter may have been a key in the family’s survival or at the very least the deaf girl plays a big role in the story, both deal with a world that is no longer our own because of the presence of monsters that hunt by sound, any sort of noise, and being quiet is how one stay’s alive – but there the similarities end. The story in _A Quiet Place_ is elegantly pared down to almost an essence, not that I didn’t enjoy _The Silence_, as in _A Quiet Place_ the apocalypse is already happened, past tense, and the movie pretty much focuses on the struggle of one family in a world where making any sound that is too loud can attract demonic monsters, where communication has to be done with facial expressions, sign language, and writing. Not that I didn’t enjoy watching the world end in Lebbon’s novel – it was well done – but here the spare, beautiful, touching and later scary portrayal of one family dealing with these creatures, all while contending with normal and not so normal family life, it was elegant, efficient, spare, and beautiful. The movie was beautifully filmed and didn’t forget to show the beauty of forest, fields, a farm, waterfall, flowers blooming, the changing seasons…all a great, quiet beauty that conceals absolutely terrible monsters. The creatures in _A Quiet Place_ were very well done and portrayed, and though I liked Lebbon’s creations, were a whole lot scarier. The action was excellent and also oddly empowering, as women and children did a lot to fight the creatures and fight them successfully. No one was really helpless unless very young, but this being a well-made horror movie, no one at all was guaranteed of success. I have seen a few quibbles here and there about some plot holes regarding how sound works, how far it can be transmitted, how the monsters might have been avoided or fought, but I didn’t see anything that took me out of the movie, that made me stop suspending disbelief, nor anything that made me angry. The movie has an interesting premise and makes intelligent people thoughtful and reflective on how such a situation would exist. Good movie, beautifully shot, loved the slow reveal of the monsters, very exciting and scary. Review: Better than 4 stars - I have watched the movie, and I think its worth the money. I have also read reviews and anything under a 4 is by people who have never seen the movie Carnivore. I have said this in other reviews, compared to it, this move is great. Carnivore is the ONLY movie worth a 1 star. This movie is not that, im sure there are parts or pieces you may not like, every can have an opinion, but when you rate it against other movies, this one is not terrible. Its a different approach, so keep your mind open. Hope you enjoy it!

great movie. but some obvious mistakes.
as a dad with a deaf daughter that has 2 CI's, i can really appreciate this movie. the fact that they used advanced Bionics Naida processors with a t mic was actually a nice touch. she should have been able to hear really well on that side. jim halpurt did a great job in this one. direction was perfect. excellent acting. great monsters. good story and plotline. clean language. no nudity. some really insightful use of quietness as with the lettuce plates, silent prayer, signing. loved the show of empathy and parental love in this one. couple problems that coulda easily been shored up. just a bit sloppy. 1) first thing i noticed was they all had bare feet. tootsies gonna get cold. could thick socks and or with say pairs of crocs not done the job? how about slippers? 2) how did halpurt not notice the water flooding the newborn room when he left? howd the alien get down into the basement? 3) the corn? a year plus into it and theres perfectly planted corn rows? 4) the corn. those kids aint gonna sink. those aren't orville redenbokker popcorn kernels people. and then the alien can jump into it with no issues? 5) top of the silo signals. kid had a flashlight. instead they started a fire and ran out of fire juice? why not just continue flashing the house with the flashlight? dad was out looking for em? 6) the truck. alien can't penetrate it with open windows? can cut right thru the silo like butter but can't get in that pos truck.. then it just glides down the road a quarter mile like a prius with no sound? how did it stop? musta had michellins. 7) knowing how rare the girls naida cochlear implants are. wondering how in the hell did big tuna find like 10 of em in an alien invaded world? those things are like $10k each. I literally laughed out loud on that one. 8) the nail... cmon man. any good dad would have had that taken care of first day. not even realistic placement. epic fail tuna. epic fail. 9) the sand... you're telling me that they hauled the entire beach around the farm, the railroad, and the center traffic line into town? cmon man. at least the production crew dressed the paths with leaves -you know to make it look realistic. lol 10) who leaves the front door open all the time? why?? all of these fools must have been born in a barn. bugs woulda been horrendous. those pesky raccoons woulda been all over the place. 11) kid really knew what wire to cut for sound on the toy rocket? really? 12) why didnt dad and the kids just stay quiet in the field at the end? or have the girl turn on the sound again? obviously she knew from the silo that the thing didn't like it. instead they run for the impenetrable broken down truck? 13) why'd he drop the ax? it woulda been a heck of a lot cooler if he woulda lopped off ol sonaralien's head. or knocked its teeth out. cut off its venus penis and shoved it in its mouth.. just sayin. 14) electric? where from? 15) it was made clear there were other people in the area based on the other night fires as viewed from the silo. kinda shocked he was looking to india and china for an SOS instead of trying to get together with people who were right there. he must have been a ford or gm exec before the invasion.

"A Quiet Place" is a magnificent movie. It is a Sci-fi suspense thriller with blind but dangerous aliens who have tormented a nation, but the story focuses on one family of five. Viewers should anticipate learning some gestures of sign language by the end of the movie. Every element of the story is absolutely integral to unifying the whole. There is no death in the film that does not NEED to happen, and yet, it's clear that there has been plenty of death, even while no character is able to SAY that. There is no tension built that is not imperative for the storyline. Nothing is gratuitous! Nothing! And yet, even on a rewatch, viewers are held aloft from the ground for the build and the sheer intensity. Emily Blunt, to be perfectly blunt, brilliantly portrays a woman who is a gentle, loving mother, a devoted wife, and a woman whom I would not want to cross under any circumstances. She is a woman with one foot set soundly in optimism for a better future and another foot grounded in grief and loss, and understandably so. Blunt's husband who plays her husband in the film, and who also directs the movie is astounding in his role. His character is flawed-- forgetting, until the very end, to tell his little girl how much he loves her, and yet, he makes it clear that he does, indeed, love her dearly. The two children, likely both preteens (although their ages are never specified), perform brilliantly in their respective roles. Since there is no great deal of talking to move the plot along, the acting and action take over, and the excellent directing makes clear to viewers what they need to know without being able to have actors say it. For example, when we see the parents dancing, viewers hear no music until Blunt's character removes one earphone and sets it in her husband's ear so that he can hear it, and when he hears it, we do too. Top-notch directing. I give this movie two thumbs and to big-toes up! I give this movie a ten on a scale of two! I give this movie an A+! In short, I highly recommend that those who love suspense, action, romance, mystery and a lot of cinematic tension experience this rare, highest-quality treat. If you don't, you are doing yourself a disservice.

I am not too big on horror movies in general but there are ones that do come around that really grab my interest. And thats what A Quiet Place did for me.I was intrigued from the trailers, and by the story where you were not being able to make a sound or the creatures would come and hunt you. The dialogue was mostly done in sign language with subtitles so that you knew what was going on and I thought that was brilliant. The movie's soundtrack is pretty quite hence the name of the title A Quite Place but when something or someone makes a sound the audio really kicks in. And thankfully they used a Dolby Atmos soundtrack so the atmospheric sounds will shake the room which is perfect for this type of movie. It stars Emily Blunt and her real life husband John Krasinski which he also directed. It made you feel like you were right there with them and felt for the family. I found the movie very suspenseful and not too much gore I think it left it to your imagination which is something you do not see often these days. I would highly recommend it.

The quality of the DVD was good; clear no skipping or stopping. The movie is well done. Action and suspense, without vulgarity, offensive language or nudity. Besides the fear factor, it is a good overall movie for most ages.
