My cheapest and favorite fillet knives
I have about a dozen fillet knives that I've spent hundreds of dollars on. But I keep going back to these basic Rapala soft grips, and I have finally decided not to buy any more fillet knives. I have a 4 inch, a 6 inch, and a 9 inch. I use the 4 inch to open every fish. I use the 6 inch to get the fillet off the skeleton. And I use the 6 or 9 to get the fillet off the skin, depending on the size of the fish. I never cut through scales. I always get the knife under the skin and cut outward. I have opened at least 200 fish with the 4 inch and I have never sharpened it. It is still razor sharp.

Terrific value and quality
Rapala knows knives! The quality to value ratio is excellent! Works when and where you need it.

A compact and inexpensive fillet knife to add to the "shore lunch" supplies...
Just what I needed for the travel tacklebox. For serious fishing I usually use an electric fillet knife... However, this is JUST the thing for the travel tacklebox - camping trip - shore lunch. Its not the greatest knife in the world, but hey its an inexpensive little fillet knife with a 4" blade. If you want to cut yellowfin tuna into steaks - buy a "bubba blade" knife for 10X the price. If you need to fillet a two day limit of Channel Cats buy a Mr Twister electric fillet knife. If your looking to cut up a couple of perch for a tasty shore lunch, or to get two brook trout ready for the skillet during a camping trip, this is more than adequate. Comes with a sheath, and a sharpening gizmo. (The plastic guide with crossed ceramic rods kind) It comes extremely sharp out of the box, holds an edge well, and sharpens up with a couple of licks through the included sharpener. In response to some of the critical reviews - there is a trade off here with a "you get what you pay for" caveat. Its not for professional chefs. Its not for professional fishing guides, serious blue water big game fishermen, etc. If your cleaning a lot of fish every day, then yes absolutely you need something better but if your the occasional angler or camper looking for a small fillet knife, that complete with sharpener, costs less than a trip through a fast food drive through - this will do the job for years. Has a comfortable soft grip, a decent enough sheath to keep it from cutting up stuff in the bottom of the tackle box, a blade that's not too long and not too stiff. I'm happy with my purchase - but keep in mind the mantra of "use the right tool for the right job". I bought this specifically for occasionally cleaning small numbers of small fish.

Awesome sharp fillet knife.
Comes new with a razor sharp edge & point, BE CAREFUL!!! The handle is made of a soft yet durable material with excellent grip. Sticks to your fingers without being sticky. I used a friends to fillet last seasons deer meat so I had to purchase my own. I've filleted small fish, chicken leg quarters and deer all with ease. The knife also comes with a really nice sheath and a porcelain sharpening hone. I ended up buying 3 because as with any knife once you hit bone a few times the knife edge suffers and needs a quick few swipes through the hone. I got the 3 knives so I could keep filleting with out stopping to sharpen. Rapala makes these knives in several sizes I just really like the 4".

Amazingly sharp and balanced.
I used. friends knife to cut soppressatta which tends to be very hard too slice and its better when the slices are very thin. This knife breezed thru the soppressatta like butter, cutting it paper thin. What A Find!

Sharp knife
Awes! Sharp! Sharp! Sharp! Did I mention that this knife is sharp! Top notch fillet knife i bought 3 for my boat. This knife holds a good edge, just pass it through the honer before cutting into your fish. I love this knife!

Ok, not great.
So I ordered the 4 inch and saw that the tip was squared off slightly, not a sharp point like the wooden handled ones from Finland (or Estonia now). I thought it was defective so I returned it and received another one. It had the same squared point. Apparently this is how the Chinese model is made, although the photo shows a very sharp point. The blade is very sharp. There is a little play and a slight gap where it joins the handle but that is not a big deal to me. I would say the wood handled ones are better quality and very similar price. I wanted to try one with a synthetic handle though. It will work for what it is made for so I'm not really disappointed.

One of the best fillet knife i ever owned. 4” knife is ideal for average size trout. It is very comfortable and has the right amount of flex to beautifully fillet the fish.
