desertcart.com: Geology For Dummies: 9781119652878: Spooner, Alecia M.: Books Review: Basics of Geology - Good book to start out or refresh your memory. Interesting and fun. I wish there was a workbook for it as well. Easy for a high level grade schooler or average middle school to understand, in my opinion Review: Geology 101 in a nutshell - If I was taking a college “Geology 101” class this would be my cheat sheet. It covers the gamut: the original principles of geology laid out by Hutton and Lyell; basic Earth structure; a concise chemistry review; identifying minerals; silicate structures; formation of igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks; Bowen’s reaction series; volcano structures; weathering; Werner’s idea of continental drift and supporting evidence; plate tectonics and boundary conditions; earthquakes; mountain building; mass wasting; hydrologic cycling; glacial erosion; wind erosion; waves and wave motion; geological time; methods of geological dating; fossils. It may say for dummies but it is a concise, easy-to-read-and-understand tutorial in one volume. This is actually my second one - I gave my first one to my daughter who teaches science in elementary school and I bought another one for myself. Highly recommend it as a basic intro to geology.

Very nice overview
This book is a very nice overview and great for a curious adult who likes to learn more about the world. Leans a little too much on global warming alarmism; however, the rest is well balanced. Great summer read.

Not sure it’s for beginners
Very hard to comprehend without some previous geology background. I wouldn’t recommend this as a beginners introduction to geology.

Like a comprehensive college introductory course.
The book is as complete and comprehensive as you would expect in an introductory college course. The new vocabulary can be overwhelming, but you aren't going to get tested, so just read and enjoy. The only thing missing is a lab. For help with that I would recommend some YouTube videos on rock classification and identification; one of my favorite channels is Earth Rocks!, put out by the City College of San Francisco. Instead of just climbing the hills and driving through the road cutouts now, I am much more involved in thinking about what type of rock formations I am seeing, trying to classify the rocks, and connecting that with the knowledge of how the earth has been in constant dynamic flux for billions of years; a lot of that is right in front of you if you just look.

Prettige inleiding in de geologie voor starters. Helaas was mijn exemplaar een soort misdruk, waarbij delen moeilijk leesbaar zijn, maar niet onoverkomelijk.

Only collected this book yesterday, but already enjoying it, apart from the fact that the colour plates in the middle have all been inserted upside-down. Otherwise an excellent book for beginners in geology.

I am a third through this book and have to say it is really good. I bought it as revision and easy reference for an earth science course I'm doing rather than going through the same module material again, and I have to say this book covers everything and more. It is easy to understand and make notes from but definitely "not for dummies". It is well written and very informative covering all the expected introductory content to earth science/geology including time periods and evolution. Highly recommend for someone interested in the subject or to support a geology course.

The author is able to break down the vast field of geology into digestible pieces. Highly recommended for beginners.
