NO RE-RECORDINGS - JUST COOL SURF TUNES !!
This is a cool set of 60 tunes from the early 60's. These are the original recordings ( SOME ARE IN STEREO ! ) and none of them appear to be re-recordings , which I personally dislike ! I thought for a moment that the label " NOT NOW" would be one of those re-recording labels, but it is not !There could have been another CD of surf tunes added to this collection containing " Ride The Wild Surf " and "Sidewalk Surfing " , both by Jan And Dean ( not here in this collection ) along with other obscure songs. This is a great addition to my collection !!

From Honeys to Hodads, if you're into Surf Music, this collection is very, very good. Some of the songs in this collection I would not consider "surf" songs, per se, but this musical genre is from the early to mid 60's, so it all works. Sound quality is pretty good as well. You can't beat the amount of music you get for the price, either.

Nice collection, but plenty not Surf Guitar
Oh, how I would have loved this collection in 1965! However, I'm not a teenager anymore, and it's now very obvious how simple the melodies and chord progressions are for many of these tunes.Caveat emptor: Perhaps a third of these songs are not in any way Surf Guitar music. The liner notes suggest (without coming out and saying so) that the title of this collection is justified because so many of these early rock instrumentals were influential on the Surf Guitar bands of 1962-63. Let me cite for example Duane Eddy, Link Wray, very early Ventures, The Champs, Scotty Moore and the recently deceased Bert Weedon.This is a 3-CD set of 60 songs, apparently a British public domain release on the Not Now label. The songs have been remastered, and they sound OK on my pedestrian system.

Surfs Up!
Well worth buying!!! 60 songs for under five dollars as I write this. Any surf fan should own this. It has many classics, and songs that should be classics. Get it now! Cowabunga dude!

I just love surf music !! It brings back such great music and memories riding down PCH in Long Beach heading to Cherry Beach then onto Seal Beach

I love surf music
I love surf music. I really do.But the problem is that most of it is second rate copy cat stuff.Take away Dick Drake, the Ventures, the Surfaris, the Chantays,And what's left? Not much, I'm afraid.Most of the dregs are here and it's pretty tired and boring.There's some other pre surf stuff that's OK but isn't part of the genre.Disappointed, but not surprised.
