Used in new Side by Side UTV
Took a bit of time to set it up and it should be set up as they suggest with Velcro so you can move it around to a few places before securing it with the sticky pad and screws. One inch from my thought ideal location made a BIG difference in it's performance, now it is all set up and works like a charm. Size is perfect for a Side by Side, it does light up but I don't know if you can see it at night since the light is so incredibly dim??? With the tiny lEDs we have today and they put a dim little light in this compass, why? A four star only because of the dim light!

Far more accurate than automotive oem.
You do want o make sure you are just a little bit away from an electromagnetic source like your radio and instrument cluster. Mine is on a 2 inch strip of dash between them. Very true and much more accurate that automotive oem. The supplied 2 sided tape, as well as 3 other high quality 2 sided tapes I bought wouldn't stick to my dash. Obviously, that is the fault of my dash, not the tape. I screwed it on with 2 little black screws. Now its permanent, and I'm fine with that. I can see it good in daylight, but not darkness. I plan to connect it to my dashboard lights, just haven't yet. It's a great size for automotive uses. I thought I might want a larger one, but that is not necessary.

After purchasing a new car, I noticed that it had it had no built-in compass like the old car and, somit had to purchase my own ,to be mounted on my dashboard. I finally chose the Ritchie Navigation Sport Compass Marine. It looked better than the ones I saw displayed in the stores. After receiving the compass and tried it out on several different location on the dash, I found a spot which the least magnetic interference and temporary mounted the unit, just in case I would have to move it again. While engine and the radio were running ,I made minor adjustments via an adjustment screw on the compass, and that was it. I was very pleased with the results. Naturally these adjustments have to be made while the car was facing in the north ,south ,east or west directions.

Nice Car Compass
This compass is not the cheap plastic compass that you see in many of the auto and department stores. It's a quality compass with some weight, and it mounts very nicely to the top center of the dash. The compass itself rotates very freely inside the housing. It also tilts with the angle of the car.It has compensators for north/south, east/west. They even give you a small non-magnetic tool to turn the little screws. Once you have it set up, there's no need for further adjustment.I wanted a nice car compass without having to pay a lot of money. This one satsified me. I like it a lot.

6 month review
I've had it in place for ~6 months now - had to mount to overhead liner above rearview mirror, as there was too much metal interference in the cab of my truck to put it anywhere else. Reads well, minimal calibration needed for this install - no fluid leaks (yet).
