A Tale Worthy of Tolkien
I have run this campaign nearly to its conclusion and can accurately report that it is a fantastic pre-written supplement for GMs of the One Ring. The writers of this system really "get" Middle-earth. The stories in this campaign feel relevant, appropriately thematic, but not overshadowing the events of the books, nor being out of character for the setting. The story this campaign tells fits in very well with the larger narrative of the Lord of the Rings, and covers a time period and a place where we don't have any real details on what was going on. It's all extremely plausible. The book is divided up into seven chapters, each of which constitutes an adventure. Depending on how your group plays, each of these adventures will run 4-6 sessions each. Each adventure is part of a larger narrative, but they can each be easily run as "one-shots" if you're not interested in a full campaign. But that is, of course, the ideal way to experience this book, as a complete story. It's quite an astounding adventure, full of battles, intrigue, treachery, exploration of the wilderness, and a dark threat lurking in the shadows. I altered a few of the adventures to suit my own narrative purposes, but the game can be easily run as-is with little to no tinkering.**SPOILER ALERT***I changed the main villain, the Gibbet King, to be one of the Nazgul. I just thought it felt more thematic and epic. That, in turn, changed a few things in how the story unfolds but the vast majority of the narrative remained as written. My players recently faced off against the Nazgul in open combat for the first time, and were suitably in awe.The art in the book is a little sparse, but what's there is great. The One Ring is a much more narrative/story-based RPG so there aren't as many maps as you might expect from a campaign book, but that's not a liability in this system. There's even an index in the back, something I can't say I've ever seen in a pre-written campaign book before. The NPCs are all memorable, from a hobbit who's been forced to serve as the cook for a goblin tribe, to the traitorous merchant in disguise, to a sad but noble Noldorin elf lady. Several well-known characters from the books make an appearance or two, including Radagast, Beorn, Bard the Bowman, Balin, Dain Ironfoot, and more. My players loved meeting these established characters and told me that their presence in the story really added a sense of immersion into Middle-earth.I have not read the Darkening of Mirkwood campaign, so I don't know how it stacks up to this one. But I can assure you that if you are a fan of this game, this campaign does everything you'd want it to, and more. Your players will love it, and you will have the satisfaction of knowing you led them through a tale of Middle-earth worthy of Tolkien himself.

Excellent adventures plus crucial new rules and setting material
Written for The One Ring Roleplaying Game (a.k.a. TOR), this compilation of adventures is an absolute must-have for any Hobbit/Lord of the Rings roleplaying gamer. It includes several adventures -- some stand alone, others connected by several plot threads -- all set in Wilderland, in and around Mirkwood, Dale, Lake-Town, and The Lonely Mountain. The best part of these adventures is that they include tons of new, fully-statted adversaries, allies, and patrons, including several characters from or hinted at in Tolkien's writings: Radagast, Beorn, several of the Dwarves that accompanied Bilbo, for starters. Many locations receive interesting new background elements and details that clearly coincide with Tolkien's writings and intent, even when there are gaps. Even better, there's new rules and mechanical ways of tackling existing situations, which makes roleplaying encounters and tactical combat feel even more interesting.Overall, this book is a must have for TOR Lorekeepers (Game Masters), and the adventures are easily portable to other roleplaying systems if you use something else for LOTR-style Middle Earth games.

One of the best RPG supplements I've ever read
We're going to play through this, starting soon. It's outstanding--from the underlying plot, to the encounter design and the overall feel. I'm very impressed with the quality of the One Ring products in general, and this book in particular. I told the players I'm actually jealous that they get to play through the 7 adventures, since I'll be running them all. Rarely have I found published adventures that I could run "as is," but Tales From Wilderland is that rare exception.

Highly recommended for LoreMasters.
This is a fantastic adventure supplement. The adventures in the book all feel very unique and can be either broken up into in individual adventures, or can be combined into a short, but quality campaign. The art is great and the book is very well written.

Very well written and atmospheric adventures.
The One Ring RPG is a game that has really captured the Tolkien feel. There included adventure in the main Slipcase set is pretty good, but really short. These adventures are much longer than that one, and really have a nice variety and great atmosphere. There is plenty of relevant information, but not so much that it feels burdensome to try to include it all. There are guidelines for how to resolve both success and failure in interesting ways, and a good mix of difficult encounters with softer ones. The book is full color, and the illustrations inside continue with the high quality aesthetics of the core set and LM screen.***As a note, the bindings on this are much higher quality than on some of the other books. It has held up very well.
