We are in for something great...
By now we should know why Russel T Davies calls Chris Chibnall "my hero". It's because he's facing the greatest of tasks, against all odds. A great, gigantic plan, so layered that's hardly conceivable. A plan that brought Doctor Who through the grinder towards the unbelievable future that has not happened yet, but that we can already see. New ideas. New production. The Sony Pictures involved. You see, Mr. Jackson? Now the Doctor Who movie you wanted to do is possible, and we can't really wait for it. After a tentative series 11, series 12 finally put the bases for this future, the baddies are more rounded, the direction taken is braver. And against all the haters (On some right wing organisation payroll? On some big cinema firm payroll? On somebody's payroll for sure...), who spent all their time raving against Jodie Whittaker, who can't be a good actress 'cause she's a woman, now we have another female Doctor, and even a black one, to make this people burst with rage. After all this, I can't wait for series 13... In this box set we'll find Resolution and all the episodes of series 12, all with subtitles, commentaries and special contents. Unfortunately, Revolution of the Daleks is not in it, we'll have to buy it separately. But to me it's worth it.

The Timeless Child
The Doctor and her friends continue to travel through time and space. Starting off with the excellent New Year special Resolution featuring Jodie Whittaker's 13th Doctor's inevitable meeting with a Dalek, this time a lone Dalek trapped on Earth, this is a very tense episode bringing the show back to basics. Series 12 properly starts with the excellent 2 part Spyfall seeing spies from all over the world assassinated and The Doctor called in by MI6 to investigate in a fun James Bond spoof. Orphan 55 starts promisingly like Alien on a holiday resort on an alien planet under attack but suffers from series 11's problems of preachy writing and bad ending. The Long Night Of Nikola Tesla is a huge improvement, a fun historical seeing The Doctor meet Nikola Tesla and Thomas Eddison as they conduct their electricity experiments during an alien invasion with some genuinely good and threatening original aliens. Fugitive Of The Juddoon sees The Doctor and friends in present day Gloucester as the Juddoon invade looking for an alien fugitive. Good fun with some surprises. Prexeus is the weakest episode of the set. A bland and preachy episode about saving the environment as The Doctor and friends investigate a mystery in 3 continents. Can You Hear Me? A fun and creepy episode with The Doctor facing a creature from another dimension that brings nightmares to life. The Haunting Of Villa Diode is one of the best episodes in Jodie Whittaker's run so far seeing The Doctor and friends meet Mary Shelley and Lord Byron on the night Mary Shelley writes Frankenstein. It ignores the fact that the 8th Doctor travels with Mary Shelley in the Big Finish Doctor Who audio series but as it's audios which aren't considered canon you can forgive it and to be honest I was expecting the audios to be ignored anyway. The Ascension Of The Cybermen, the 1st of an excellent 2 part finale seeing the return of The Cybermen and the new Master with the excellent conclusion The Timeless Children, a very controversial finale that doesn't rewrite the show's history but merely adds to it and adds to the mystery of The Doctor. An improved series 12 though it still suffers from political correctness and preachiness but still very enjoyable.
