181 cups of my dog food BUT # CUPS VARIES BY BRAND...

My dog food says a cup weighs 100gms

40 lbs = (40x16) 640 ounces
 = (640x28.35) 18144 grams
18144 grams = (18144/100) 181.44cups

Some dog foods are denser than others so the # cups varies by dog food

Think of it this way a cup of marbles weighs more than a cup of popcorn so there are more cups in Popcorn Chow than Marble Chow

181 cups of popcorn weigh less than 181 cups of marbles see less

Where is this dog food made? I saw there was a recall in 2012. Why was it recalled?

Hi Jolene,  I just checked the Diamond Naturals bag and it is made in Missouri.  The 2012 voluntary recall was due to possible Salmonella.  It was only confined to the lamb and rice mixture. I switched to Diamond because my dogs were having a terrible reaction to Pedigree (I found metal bits in their kibble) and then switched to Blue Buffalo/Wilderness.  After a week on BB, they started vomiting profusely, had seizures and nearly died (apparently BB has lethal amounts of Vitamin D for dogs).  After multiple vet visits and two weeks of a homemade rice and fish diet, I did a LOT of research and found that Diamond was a good choice for recovering canines.  My vet also recommended Diamond and the price is not inflated. Since switching to Diamond 4 months ago, my dogs (Silky Terrier & Chihuahua) no longer have stomach distress, have regular bowel movements and are happy campers.  They like the taste too.  I would highly recommend this brand!
