I bought two and they went in fairly easily. It would have been totally easy if I wasn't trying to replace an old one with a keyed entry as the hole I had was slightly differently placed than what would have been optimal for this unit. You do have to play with the shims and strike for this that it locks into on the door jamb. I had a metal door jamb which can be more difficult than wood. I was able to make it work without too much trouble though and would recommend this product, especially for a new install. You will end up with extra screws and pieces as they try to make it a universal install closer.

All I can say is that it installed very easy as a maintenance supervisor at a university I had to drill 4 new holes and tap them also ( this replaced a panic bar from the 1960's ) so a little work had to be done to make this work Removal of old system 15min installation of this new system was 1.5hrs as far as the durability of the panic bar it's too early to say about that

Great product for the price. One caution: As noted in other reviews, the instructions are wrong about mounting screw size. The mounting screws are actually metric size M5. One can simply drill and tap for that size, or substitute SAE 10-24 screws for metric. Don’t try 1/4-20 screw size as stated in the instructions. They are too big. I used #10 X 1/2” hex head self tapping screws to mount the bar assembly. For the strike, I drilled and tapped for 10-24 X 3/4” flat head machine screws (actually 1/2” long is enough). Worked great. Installed four crash bars that way. This was for metal doors and frames. For wood, the supplied screws should be just fine.

Easily replaced an older one that was no longer working.
