Comfy and durable and last well
So this is an update on how the boots are going, I've had them for over a year now and I've done hundreds of miles over all sorts of terrain including the mountains in Scotland, Wales and loads in the Lakes. I usually wear Meindl's but the price of them has gone through the roof and I decided to take a punt on the Salewa Mountain Trainers. I'm glad I did, first of all I got lucky with the fit, they are awesome, I'm usually an 11 so I ordered an 11.5 (I think a 12 would have been ok too) and they are well fitting with a mid depth sock and snug (not too snug) with a big winter sock. They are waterproof, I've never had a problem with them and are robust, they have been kicked all over and the build quality seems fantastic. They were quite stiff at first but after a while they became very comfortable. The lacing is good and the system they have never lets your heel slip, in fact they have just the right amount of cushioning. The sole is quite aggressive looking with a fairly high drop but I always seem to have the right amount of feel/stiffness about them. Obviously they fit my feet well and I've got a second pair! Recommended by me and my feet!

Fantastic boot
Used for winter trip to Wales. Bloody amazing boot, and fit true to size. I usually go one size up, but was recommended to go for normal size due to the fit. Very comfy, sturdy and good grip when walking. Highly, highly recommended boot.

Brilliant boots
Arrived super fast. First impressions were that the boots felt a little stiff but they looked really well made and surprisingly light. I am a size 10 and had ordered a 10.5 and they were a snug fit. The soles are very grippy and a little stiff but I do prefer a stiff sole. The boot gives plenty of support to the ankles without rubbing. I put them on to do a 2 hour dog walk over the hills and moors and was very sceptical about the 100% blister free from the start claim. Well after 5 minutes I forgot that I had new boots on. No rubbing and no blisters. The boots are a joy to wear and 100% recommend them….

Excellent ankle support and toe box
I'm a size 13 in walking boots and had tried on every viable pair in the four major physical shops. This is the only non-leather pair that actually fit me, with excellent ankle support and sized toe box. The lacing system features quite a unique three-point end (toward the front of the boot), and locks off at the base of the tongue- allowing you to have two different levels of tension in the leg and foot of the boot. I find them very attractive and incredibly comfortable to walk in. They're a lot lighter than my leather pair, so will make excellent three season walking boots. Only concern is that the surface design has lots of different parts, so might be challenging to maintain with spreading nikwax etc evenly.

Great boot really well made UPDATED!
Great boot, really well made super strong. Thick sole that sokes up all the lumps and bumps. Took a while to break in though so I wore them to work and while visiting a few car boot fairs now there so comfortable highly recommend. So I've had these for a while now and can honestly say there good, comfortable you never really know their on but..... There's always something to ruin it. A crack started to form in the leather which then turned into a split a star shaped split which is quite large. Now there supposed to be 100% water proof..... Not no more, for the money paid for the boots I expected years of use out of them not months and I know people that have had there walking boots for 10years plus. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement, gutted is more like it.

Great Lightweight Boots.
Great fit, light weight but with a nice hard sole. A great 3 season boot. I haven’t tested them in the rain yet but I’ll be getting my leather boots out for the winter.

Fantastic, terrible
One of the weirdest experiences I've ever had with footwear. Sizing was perfect according to chart. First few days of wearing was agony, across the part where my big toes meet my foot. Like a really deep ache. Broke in within a week to become probably the most comfortable boots I've ever worn. Within a few months of walking however, the boots have failed catastrophically: they now leak on both feet very badly. This happened to both feet pretty much overnight. My feet now get thoroughly soaked in the rain, or walking through long wet grass. Maybe the liner has failed somehow? It's really disappointing. I really like wearing these boots, they are sturdy yet comfortable, and very stylish for a walking boot. They still look like new pretty much, with less than a hundred miles of walking (estimate) over a few months. So annoying, I liked wearing them, and was expecting to get some years of service out of them. I shall approach Salewa about their product warranty. EDIT: Salewa have no UK based customer support. Their support office is apparently in Italy. I raised a complaint with them about the boots failing in their warranty period. They initially requested that I return to Amazon, but the failure was outside the Amazon return period while being covered directly by Salewa's manufacturer warranty. After a bit of back and forth by email they agreed to replace them free of charge, as one would expect from a reputable manufacturer. The replacement boots arrived after about six weeks, but the wrong colour. No big deal to me personally, but may be for you. The size is nominally identical, but the fit is definitely looser on the replacement pair. Positives: replacement, polite customer service Negatives: slow replacement, different boot Time will tell whether the replacements are actually waterproof. My suspicion now is that there is no Gore Tex sewn into the tongue of the leaking pair, they leak through that area, with no obvious holes/damage. EDIT: Salewa sent a replacement pair. It was the sulphur black/orange scheme, instead of the actual ones it should have been (black/lime). Few notes: 1. The laces on the lime coloured ones are much better, much thicker and easier to grip. 2. The sizing is not that consistent, the replacement pair felt a bit bigger (for the same size). 3. The replacement pair were comfortable straight out of the box, none of the pain for the first week of the original pair. However, it looks like the second pair are beginning to leak too, after less than maybe twenty miles of walking. Today was the first real test in moderately heavy rain. They are leaking in the same place as the originals: through the tongue, and at the edges of the insole. Really annoying, as they are a very comfortable and stylish boot. Just wished they kept the water out. I would certainly not wear these out on the hills...
