DK Eyewitness Travel Guide: Costa Rica

Quality Guide to CR
DK always produces quality Guides. I have always valued their Backpacking Guides and now this beautiful Guide to Costa Rica. I have found this guide to be the most informative and useful of the guides I have used. It is my 1st choice by far! It may not go into the depth of some other Guides about a specific place, like Frommers or Fodor or the nitty gritty of off the beaten trail like Lonely Planet and others, but it gives you a wonderful overview of the country and the full color pictures jump out at you. They give you a taste of what to expect, that just words can not. The 3D drawings of places in San Jose and the Central valley are really most helpful in understanding what you will be seeing and experiencing. This guide introduces you to the essence of this beautiful country. I found the maps give you a great sense of where things are. Be sure to check out this guide before making your final selection of a Costa Rica Guide.

Nice Picture, Reasonable Coverage - Meets Expectations, nothing more.
I bought the book used and in fair condition and found it to actually be a little better than described. It came a little earlier than expected and because it was used much cheaper than the new version. That said, it's just a standard travel book albeit one with a lot of pictures. Typically I use travel books to get an idea of the places to visit or pass on by. I have a limited amount of vacation time and want to mostly relax and experience a different culture, see some things I don't get the opportunity to see and meet really interesting people. I think this book does a reasonable job helping me decide what area to stay in and what I'd like to see while I'm there. That's what I was looking for so, it's done it's job. Now for some deeper, more up to date research in person.

I like this Guide
It has beautiful pictures and nice commentary on the people, culture, history and geography of CR. Can help you to plan your trip as far as what you may want to see but not much help on the specifics of where to stay, eat, etc. Use Trip Advisor or something else for that. If you do your homework you can probably leave this home or take it with you if you just want to be able to do a quick check on some where you are going the next day while on your trip.

Very useful guidebook
We purchased this for recent (and first) visit to Cost Rica. Great illustrations, organized into regions with good information to provide some history, places to visit, fairly good maps (as a plan 'B' in the event that your GPS dies).Easy read on the plane ride over - laminated and sturdy - easily surviving our trip, getting wet a few times and passed back and forth.

DK is always colorful and informative
This was a great guide because it covered not just the sights to see but also had articles about animals and birds and other creatures. For Costa Rica that is very important because a lot of what you come to see is nature. It also, of course, gave details of museums, etc. Only drawback is the weight. Those glossy pages are heavy but it is still my favorite guidebook series. I pretab with sticky notes my copy for the locations that I am actually going to.

DK Travel Guides are the best!
We bought this for our upcoming trip to Costa Rica and love it! DK is famous for their colorful (and informational) illustrations and this book is no exception. We've already traced our route through the country, highlighted the key sites / activities and paper-clipped pages abound! It's full of Costa Rica history and cultural tips - fascinating. Well worth it!

Pretty great
This was a great book to have during my trip in Costa Rica. Nice photos of wild life, plants and a few maps that gave me a good idea of where I was.The only draw back is that the book is a little on the heavy side. However, I would buy it again because it was so useful.

Love Eyewitness
Eye witness travel guides are my favourite, i have many and always buy a new one when i book a holiday to a new destination. The book is wekk sectioned out and i really like the "places to eat" section where bars and restaurants are grouped into areas of the city so its really easy to see all the places you can eat near where you are staying. There is loads of useful information and recommendations of things to see and places to go and what i partularly like is it sticks to facts. It lets you know about the risks of particular areas/ cities/ countries however there is no scaremongering- I have read other guides that made me feel i couldnt visit a place without a bodyguard, spend loads of money on gadgets to keep my belongings safe only to find out i had been completely paranoid when I arrived.Stick with Eyewitness, they are always the best.

Detailed guide to help you prioritize.
As usual a terrific guide. Very detailed, allows you to prioritize your adventure. A bit expensive but given the cost of travel worth the price.
