The answer to my worn out patio door lock
This worked great on my sliding door. The old lock had worn through the door jam slot so that it would not lock. I would have had to change out the entire door jam to correct the problem, but his lock did the trick. It was very easy to install with a drill and the enclosed screws. Now the door is secured better than it was with the original lock.

Great easy quick fix
The sliding door lock works like a charm, was easy to install and super cheap! We’ve been using a wood, 1 inch dowel as our “locking mechanism” which works but it’s ugly and a pain constantly having to bend down to pick it up and move it out of the way. This lock has solved the problem, we mounted it on the top of the slider so we just reach up and latch it in the area we want. It has 2 slots the lock will lock into securely.

Great way to add security to your sliding door!!!
Device works well to secure entryway. Installation was a breeze. I predrilled the screw holes to make it easier to get the screws precisely where I wanted them. Make an audible sound when you lock it to let you know it's engaged. A simple press of a button disengages it. Has been installed for a few months without any signs of damage or premature failure. We have said goodbye to our wooden "guard" stick, lol.

Very Pleased, Installation Isn't That Hard, Read Below for Tips
So after reading the reviews of other people shattering their sliding glass doors while installing this lock, my husband and I took to referring to it as the "scary lock." Phrases such as "did you order the scary lock?" and "when is the scary lock arriving?" were pretty common in our household. Anyways... I watched a ton of installation videos on youtube before trying ours and here's my list of tips. 1. When you attach the lock to the actual door, make sure you put the lock as close to the non-glasss edge of the door as possible to ensure the screws don't go through and hit your glass. Look at your door from all angles and if you have even a suspicion that you're going to hit the glass, DONT DO IT. Pick a different lock. 2. When attaching the lock receiver to the doorframe, keep in mind that the screws provided are pretty long and may screw your door shut if you're not careful. This leaves you with a few options. First, if you are installing at the lock/receiver to the top of the door, you may be able to put the screws in the clearance space that the installers used to get the door into the track. This has two benefits, not only will it allow the door to slide without hitting the screws but it will make it close to impossible to lift the door out of the track, thus increasing security. Second, if you're installing the lock/receiver at the bottom of the door and the screws are too long to avoid screwing your door shut, they can easily be replaced for less than 50 cents with shorter screws. 3. Before you begin drilling any holes, mark where you need to drill with a pen and once again make sure you're not going to hit glass. 4. Before you put the screws in, use a drill bit to create a small guidance hole. This will not only make the screw installation easier but will also allow you to go incredibly slowly and make sure, once again, that you're not going to hit the glass. We did all of the above and the installation still only took about 10 minutes. We're definitely going to be getting some similar locks for our downstairs windows too.

Ok for keeping kids in, not as secure as other sliding door security devices
Purchased this to make securing sliding glass door easier for elderly parent with vision issues. Locking and unlocking is straight forward and easy enough, can be mounted at top or bottom of door. The mounting screws that come with the lock are garbage, soft and snapped when screwing into properly predrilled holes. BEWARE, when installing on the door frame with glass, the width of the mounting plate puts two of the four mounting screw holes over where the glass insert fits in the frame; if drilled into, the entire glass insert will shatter. I had to use two screws on one side and epoxy to secure the other, not optimum and why I gave this only three stars overall rating. Jeff

Needed modifications but works great
This lock is very sturdy and is very easy to operate with your foot. I am very happy with added security this lock provides. In my application, I had to install it to an aluminum sliding door with a narrow frame. Many reviewers complain about the hardware provided. Just go to the hardware store if the provided screws don’t fit your application. In my case I purchased stronger machine screws to fasten all the parts. I tapped two threaded holes in the aluminum door track to mount the strike plate. For the plunger assembly mounting, I had to fabricate a small aluminum 1/2” x 1/2” x 2 1/2” mounting block extension since the door frame was not wide enough. Fortunately this door has an aluminum frame surface that allows 2 machine nuts to be used behind the door frame without coming close to the glass. The modifications I made may be difficult for a novice to attempt, but demonstrate the adaptability of this lock to different applications with some skilled effort.

cannot work with my door, and quite possibly with yours
This is not installable with my door, though that was not obvious until I had the part in my hand. The fundamental problem is that the "frame" part of my sliding door is about 1/4" thick. The metal stike plate provided sticks out further than this (5/8" according to the diagram?), so would not allow the door to pass. I thought about reversing it, which might have worked, but you still have to screw it into the frame with half inch (or longer) screws. Once placed, those would again block movement of the door. Thought about shimming it out, but that would leave a tiny length of screw attaching it to the frame. It'd pop out easily. No security. Finally, perhaps I could have screwed the strike plate into the floor. No way. Anyway, the moral here is to look long and hard at those diagrams. I guess it works for some people, but our door is pretty standard, and there's no way it would work for us.
