Dry But Thorough - A Solid Foundation for Technical Analysis Newcomers
As someone just dipping their toes into stock chart analysis, this "Technical Analysis for Dummies" textbook delivered exactly what the title promised - just without much flair. After working through all 400+ pages, I'm torn between appreciating its thoroughness and wishing it was more engaging. The Good: - Comprehensive Coverage: Leaves no stone unturned - from basic candlesticks to complex indicators - Beginner-Friendly Explanations: Complex concepts broken down with clear examples - Practical Application: Each chapter includes real chart examples with annotations - Reference Quality: Well-organized for quick look-ups after initial reading The Pain Points: - Sleep-Inducing Prose: Reads like stereo instructions at times - Overwhelming Detail: 50+ indicators covered when 20 would suffice for beginners - Dated Examples: Charts reference companies like Enron and GE from pre-2010 (granted these concepts haven’t changed since the inception of the stock market) Features That Shine: 1. The "Myth vs Reality" callout boxes that debunk common TA misconceptions 2. Step-by-step diagram sequences showing pattern formations 3. Surprisingly useful chapter on combining fundamental and technical analysis How I Used It: Kept it at my trading desk for 6 months as: - A learning tool (first pass cover-to-cover) - A pattern reference guide - A reality check when tempted by "hot tips" Who Will Benefit Most: - Discipline-focused learners who don't need entertainment - Visual learners who appreciate the hundreds of chart examples - Traders who want one reliable reference book Final Verdict: Like eating vegetables - not enjoyable but good for you. It won't make technical analysis exciting, but it will make you competent. Just be prepared to supplement with YouTube tutorials when the textbook glaze sets in. Four stars for substance over style.

It is a great study!
Buy it and more. Study it and study YouTube videos on chart patterns, look at your trading platform and write every single acronym and place it on a one page paper for each acronym with its word and meaning and how it should look on the chart. Take 3 months to your learning with this book or two, thank yourself for buying it.

A re-readable type of book
For some reason I stopped at about 40% through this book, read a few others and then came back to this. It felt like this book opened my eyes. The other books only touched on technical analysis with maybe a chapter or so, as they are mainly focused on general things (e.g. differences between trading and investing, stocks vs forex, etc.). Coming back to this book, it felt more detailed, easy to understand and implement. That makes me want to revisit the first 40% that I read so long ago. I might have missed some really good stuff back then. As it turns out, I have been making more trades since reading this book, as the charts seem like less of a complete mystery now. They are better trades too, not just random guesses. Most times when I get stopped out of a position, it's not by much, and my call was right more often than not. I think I'll re-read this book at least one more time. Thanks, Barbara Rockefeller.

A Great Introduction to Technical Analysis!
I’m a Fundamental trader that was looking to get an in-depth dive into Technical Analysis. This book turned out to be a great introduction and foundation for further research. I recommend reading this book when you have time to do extra research. After every chapter I’d spend hours testing what I’ve learned on charting software and falling down google’s rabbit hole getting even more in-depth on what I’ve learned. After reading this book I’ve come to the conclusion every active trader should learn both Fundamental & Technical Analysis. Fundamental Analysis and News may be what makes markets move but Technical Analysis is the study of human behavior, the reaction to what made the markets move. Good luck out there fellow traders :) PS: Not financial advice ;)

It's Almost All Narrative
I'm giving it a neutral rating because while it's well written and the author clearly knows her subject, I did not expect a book on "technical analysis" to be almost all narrative. (And yes, I know it's a "For Dummies" book.) Each chapter has a couple/few simple graphics. I would have much preferred an approach of providing a brief narrative introduction to the topic at hand, then providing detailed graphs related to that topic, and then taking a deep-dive into each sub-part of each graph.

Essenziale per neofiti del trading ma utile anche per chi già ci lavora, sarebbe bello se venisse tradotto anche in italiano.

The book is amazing. Very clear, well explained, after taking stock market classes I needed more information. Most stock market educations give you bits here and bits there, but not everything. This book is a great and very helpful tool. I do recommend you to get also the other one on fundamental analysis too. Both go hand in hand.

Very very nice introduction on the topic. Not a reference book of course. But with only 20 euros and in only 300 something pages it delivers the main take home messages.

An eye opener book for the stock market beginners, gives more clarity and tells the reality. Good work. Thanks 😊
