Great device, easy to install and great deal for the money!
Great device, easy to install and great deal for the money! Below are my comments: 1. Easy to install – installation of the front facing camera took about 10 -15min to attached to windshield and run the wire along the headliner, pilar, under dash to plug in socket. a. The rear camera took a ~15 to 20 min to install. I installed it on the rear window as it would have taken another 10 to 15 min to run the wires through the hatchback frame. I don’t have the back-up camera feature implemented in this install as the car already has a backup camera. I had the camera attached to the back window frame but it fell off because of lack of a good attachment surface. 2. Ease of use – it took a little to get use to the menu buttons which uses the left side buttons to navigate the right button to “apply” or “ok.” Even the default settings a sufficient to start recording immediately. 3. Clear video - the video looks clear and license plates are visible. There are times in direct sunlight where the camera tries to adjust and it may be harder to make out the letters on the plates. I can’t comment on the night time video yet. 4. Turns off when car is turned off – great for saving your battery. 5. Files saved off in separate folders for front/back cameras. 6. Great customer support – response to my email question was within 1 business day.

A Must-Have for Every Road Trip!
I recently purchased the Front and Rear CHORTAU Dual Dash Cam 3 inch for my car, and I must say, it has completely exceeded my expectations. This dual dash cam has become an indispensable companion for all my road trips. Here's why I think it's an outstanding product: 1. Crystal Clear Recording: The video quality of both the front and rear cameras is remarkable. The 1080p resolution captures every detail with impressive clarity. Even during low-light conditions, the night vision mode ensures that the footage remains clear and usable. 2. Wide Viewing Angle: The wide-angle lenses provide an extensive view of the road ahead and behind, reducing blind spots and ensuring that all critical moments are captured. It's especially useful for capturing scenic routes or potential incidents on the road. 3. Seamless Loop Recording: The loop recording feature ensures that I never run out of storage space. The oldest recordings are automatically overwritten, eliminating the hassle of manually managing the memory card. 4. G-Sensor for Incident Detection: The built-in G-sensor has proven to be a lifesaver. It automatically detects sudden movements or impacts and locks the footage, preventing it from being overwritten. This feature provides invaluable evidence in case of accidents. 5. User-Friendly Interface: The 3-inch display is the perfect size for quickly reviewing footage or adjusting settings. Navigating through the menus and playback is intuitive, even for someone who's not tech-savvy. 6. Easy Installation: Setting up the CHORTAU Dual Dash Cam was a breeze. The included suction cup mount securely holds the cameras in place, and the provided cables are of good quality. I had it up and running within minutes. 7. Parking Mode: The parking mode is a game-changer for those concerned about their car's safety while parked. The dash cam switches to standby mode but activates and records whenever it detects motion nearby. This adds an extra layer of security to my vehicle. 8. Value for Money: Considering the features and performance, the CHORTAU Dual Dash Cam offers exceptional value for its price. It's a cost-effective way to enhance safety and accountability while driving. In conclusion, the Front and Rear CHORTAU Dual Dash Cam 3 inch has proven itself as a reliable and feature-packed dash cam system. Its impressive video quality, user-friendly interface, and useful features like loop recording, G-sensor, and parking mode make it an essential addition to any vehicle. Whether you're a frequent road tripper or just looking to enhance your driving safety, this dash cam is a wise investment that I wholeheartedly recommend.

Almost prefect
Setup was a breeze. While choosing my desired settings, it was clear this dash cam is high quality compared to others I've owned. It feels durable and well made and the video quality is excellent. Before the first trip, however, I ran into a snag. I could not wake up the camera after the screensaver kicked in. I was initially very frustrated, disappointed, and ready to leave a bad review but I took another look at the instruction manual instead and found a reset button and used it. After that, no problems at all, but I turned off the screensaver just to be safe. As it turns out, that issue might not have actually happened at all. Confused? Check this out... Through the lenses of my particular sunglasses, I cannot see the video at all, no matter how hard or closely I look, but I can see the video just fine without my sunglasses. So that issue I had? I'm pretty sure I was wearing my sunglasses and that was the cause, but I'm not 100% certain on that. Idk if this is a safety feature to prevent distractions while driving or a happy accident with whatever type of screen protector they put on this thing. Obviously it would only be effective during the day, when people usually wear sunglasses. I've yet to drive with it at night, so I can't comment of the night vision capabilities yet, but so far, I'm impressed. Update: The main reason I got this particular unit was for the advertised heat resistance and it has held up remarkably well in the Arizona summer heat compounded by being in a hot car for over a week. The night vision is actually pretty good as well. The main problem I've had with this unit is the motion detection. It needs to be more sensitive. I've had cars and people pass right next to me and sometimes the motion detection does not pick it up. Other times I've had the motion detection stop recording a mere ten seconds after it picked up movement. This happened a few times sitting at a red light when the intersection wasn't that busy. This is potentially really bad if someone hit me at that moment or some other incident occurred. I've also had the unit turn off and on for no apparent reason even though it is receiving constant power. Lastly, any time it randomly resets or you open up the menu for any reason, or you hit the"OK" button to manually start recording, it automatically turns off the motion detection so you have to make sure to turn the motion detection back on EVERY SINGLE TIME. If you rely on the motion detection, you have to check it before you start driving just to be sure it didn't go back to the default off setting. Because of these things, I am knocking off one star. I am very tempted to knock off two stars but I'll hold off unless something else negative comes to light. The backup camera, however, works great provided you can position it exactly right. That requires a lot of back and forth to check the image. I still haven't perfected it's position yet. It would also be beneficial to add two more screw holes on the back so you could flip the unit upside down to choose between positioning it upside down or right side up. I made my own and so far it has worked out well. One more update: I've been using this dash cam for about a year and a half and it has held up well. One last thing I've noticed about this dash cam: Yes, it does automatically start recording when you turn the car on if you have that option turned on in the settings, but not always. Here is the exception: as you may know, this camera has a loop recording feature allowing it to automatically record over the oldest non-locked video. Sooner or later, depending on the size of your SD card, the card will run out of space. When that happens, the camera has a pop-up notification that your SD card is full. You will then have to manually start recording at the beginning of your trip to bypass that notification (picture included). It basically depends on the size of the last video file when you turned your car off. If it's shorter than average, it leaves just enough space on the SD card to allow the auto record function to start up normally. It's annoying, but sooner or later you will just have to get into the habit of double checking that it is recording as it is supposed to.

Pretty good Dashcam with front and rear cameras
It is now a few weeks that I installed this dash camera for my SUV. It is kind of small in size (compared to my other one). But I like the sharp video it takes, particularly the rear camera (I placed it inside, not outside) is still very sharp and clear even at night, the clarity and brightness of the video was not affected by placing behind the rear window! I have another similar one (different brand) for my CRV, which has a darker rear window, the rear camera video is very dark!) The thing I think the manufacturer can improve this camera setup is the length of the cable provided. I installed it using the Wire A diagram connection. (Wire B diagram won't work as the cable will span over the T bar and side impact air bag. I don't want the wire of this camera to block the air bag.) Wire A diagram connection will use more wire as the wire goes below the inside of the car. If the manufacturer gives a foot longer for the wire, it will be much better. I can't place the camera in the middle because it is kind of short (about 6" short) for my SUV. Otherwise, this will be perfect. Anyhow, it still captures a pretty good angle in the back. The other thing is I placed this camera on Park Alert and Motion Sensing mode, every time I open my car door, the camera starts this mode and then after the predefined seconds, it turns off, instead of continuously on! I figured out I needed to turn the mode sensitivity to low rather than high or medium. Otherwise, the camera will behave as designed when motion is detected. Overall, good price and good quality.

I couldn't read the videos the camera stored. It wasn't the camera's fault!
I guess I purchased a bad SD card for the camera. Both front an rear camera video files recorded were garbage that even VLC couldn't playback 9 out of 10 5imes. After noticing that my computer couldn't even successfully write files to the SD card though an adapter I determined that either the SD card was too slow for the camera to succeed at writing two cameras worth of HD video to at once, or the SD card was defective. In either case, replacing it with a high speed 130+MBps speed µSD card was the fix that made everything work great! I now highly recommend this camera. But be sure to get a good SD card for yours! A few things I don't like I dinge it two stars for: • The crash sensor (at least default setting, haven't messed with changing them yet) did not detect and protect or lock away the videos I had for two incients.. One I averted hitting a lage pit bull dog that stepped out from hiding behind a flower pot in the center barrier on a main street that was poorly lit at night by slamming the breaks and swerving violently to the side. The camera did not notice this. Another one, I misestimated the height of an unusually high curb trying to turn around in a driveway and the car wheel or something heavy under the car stuck the curb with an Earth-shattering BANG!!!! And that too the camera did not sense.. And I hit the breaks a bit hard before hitting a loose manhole cover at night and that caused a loud BANG! from under the car and that too was ignored by the camera. I will try to change the setting to make it more sensative when I have time, but the default setting as it comes is not up to snuff, it doesnt detect anything going on. Also, the volume of the micophone on the camera is also by all standads petty low. • Lastly, and it is a picky item maybe but an important one is that the red wire that has to be tapped into the reverse light on the car in the trunk is like two feet too short to reach the wiring for the reverse tail light in my Prius and that thin gauge of wire is truly cheap. Would have been far better for the maker of this camera and its wiring harness to charge the buyer the extra $.50 US to include the two more feet needed for that thin wire to reach the reverse wire in my trunk. Instead now I have two lenghts of wire and two splices making this connection potentially twice as likely to fail somewhere in the future due to extraneous connections. • I don't see at all how the parking monitoring function of this is a feature that will actually work for anyone since vehicle power is removed the second most cars are tuned off by their key which means when the car goes off, the camera will be shutting off too without a choice. The camera does not have a battery in it to continue to monitor anything but rather an internal capacitor to filter and extend its power a second or two after loss of the 12 V from th car accessory port just long enough to shut down the camera censor and electronics and safely close the last two video files it was saving until the key turn off event was detected. That being the case it will never function to watch a parked car unless you leave the car running with the keys in it *with which they could steal the car and the camera so what would be the point? On its face this feature is impossible to have without a constant power source to power the camera that most cars disallow. • The mounting screws are too short and too skinny and the wrong kind to use to mount the rear camera to the fabri lighing of my car's rood at the edge of the hatch back. Wider longer screws would give me more confidence that they are actually screwing into something that would last and not fall apart when someone slams the hatchback or acciidently bumps the camera. Would have been nice to have a suction cup mount for that camera as an option . • The rear camera mount I not the easiest thing to stablize. The camera may shift its view vertically a lot until you can figure out a way to tighten the two mall screws against that an seal the with something like loc-tite. Other than those pet peeves, with a good quality µSD card in the camera, and a properly installed harness of wires hidden properly behind molding and plastic body panels so you don't see any of them, it makes for a great little dash cam. I wish it had a single proprietary connector instead of two universal connectors going into the top of the camera when setup with its rear camera. It's twice the ugly number of wires to hide and more difficult to hide the two wires coming down from the rear mirror to the camera. A single USB C connector to the camera would make the installation a bit cleaner looking and less difficult to plug the camera back in when its readjusted after putting it back in the car each morning so it isn't stolen at night by a thief breaking into the car to get it. It's good size, good quality. You won't be disappointed at what you get for the price!

Not worth your time or money, buy a better dash cam
* * * UPDATE 8/12/2021 * * * We've had this Dash Cam for about 4 months now and the cons are heavily outweighing the pros. We are seriously regretting purchasing this when we did and wished we would have waited to buy a higher quality dash cam. To add to the negatives we posted 4 months ago down below. Transferring footage from the camera to my computer is an absolute nightmare. This issue started about a month after using the camera 5 times a week, back and forth to work, and has been progressively getting worse. I know for a fact that there are no issues with any of my PCs USB ports, I use them all the time with other devices and scans show there are no faults with the USB ports. Yet, when I plug the camera in to extract the files, sometimes it won't register that there is a device connected to the computer. I have to unplug and plug it back in numerous times until it decides it wants to connect. Once connected, it's basically a race to get the files off of the camera because sometimes it will disconnect mid-transfer, so the charades begin all over again until I have successfully transferred all files. It used to happen once every few days but now it's happening at least 10 times per transfer session. My PC has 4 USB ports on the front, and 4 in the back. I have tried all of them to no avail. Either something is wrong with the connecting USB cable or there's an issue with the camera internally. Either way, it's enough to drive the wife insane since she's the one who puts up with the task of transferring files. It's probably best by now to just throw it in the garbage where it belongs. Another issue we've been steadily having for the past few weeks is that the camera chooses when it wants to record and when it doesn't. What I mean by that is, after I have physically plugged it in once I've started the car, and have made sure that it is on and recording, it will stop recording but remain on until I've reached my destination. I won't realize there were no recorded files until I've returned home and fought with it to transfer over files that were never there. This poses a serious issue for myself and my wife. For example: If either of us were to be involved in an accident, then state that we had a dashcam as proof, only to find out it was having a temper tantrum during it all and not doing it's job. So, now we're put in a predicament where if fault is not already obvious then we're basically screwed. I can't put trust in a device that has slowly declined in operating ability. If you take anything away from this lengthy review, just do your research. Save up and buy the best that's out there for your safety. 4/16/2021 - Snagged one of these during an Amazon Deals event, been wanting a dash cam for a while now and this one didn't look too bad. It was easy to set up in our SUV, and mounting both cameras was fairly simple. Sound quality is good for both cameras. The back camera we decided to mount inside our vehicle versus outside, worked better for us. We've yet to hook up the wires internally for the backup camera function, so can't comment on that just yet, and we also haven't used the dash cam at night, so can't comment on the picture quality during the nighttime either. The quality of the rear camera is okay, mildly blurry, but still visible enough to know what you're looking at. The front camera quality is great, definitely not the best out there, but I'm able to read plates if the car is in decent range. I included video footage from front camera and a screenshot from the rear camera. The black line in the rear camera image is just the line on my rear window. There's three negatives so far for me. The first one is the record time. I'm not sure if other dash cams are similar, but it records in 2 minute intervals. So, if I had to use the footage for something, I would either have to send each individual file or find a way to stitch them together in a video program. Just a mild inconvenience in my opinion. The second negative is the date and time feature. I've changed the date and time on it 3 times and each time after it was turned on it shows the date prior. As shown in the video and image I included, the clip is from April 16 around 11am, but shows the date of April 15 around 11pm. I don't know what else to do other than setting the time every time I turn it on before a drive, another inconvenience. It would suck if I needed the footage and the wrong date and time was stamped on the video. The third negative, which might be a fault in the camera that we received, is that it turns on with the slightest touch anywhere on the camera. The power button has to be held down in order to turn it on, but just picking it up or unscrewing it off the mount will turn it on. Just an issue we'll have to live with, but it sucks because it automatically starts recording when it's turned on and takes up unnecessary SD card space. The SD card I have doesn't hold much, maybe less than an hours worth, so will definitely have to get a 16gb or 32gb. Other than those few issues, as I've stated before it works for its intended purpose.

Working horse
It's a decent dashcam. It worked in my car for three or four years, and now it's been working in my friend's truck for about four years. No complaints. I would have liked better quality, of course, but it's not bad as it is.

Know what you're getting.
It's important to know what you're getting when you purchase products like these. I was initially looking at getting a 4K -resolution camera set but I just can't justify spending thrice the amount. For this price-point, standard 1080p works just fine. I know a lot of other reviewers complain about the resolution, and there's a few questions about being able to read license plates. However, please know what you're getting. Every dash cam, despite the price, will provide you with a pin-hole -sized camera feeding images to a crop-sensor. Put your cellphone on a mount and face it out the window. This is essentially the idea. The reason for many unreadable license plate complaints is not the camera's resolution nor the sensor; people expect these to automatically adjust to distances to pick up images both near-and-far, like a human eye. These are cameras just don't have the ocular ability to adjust like the way people want these to. Sure, that'll be great, but try covering one eye and with your open eye, judge distance. It's impossible; both are needed to do so, which is why there are so many complaints about dash cameras in this way. At night, expect every headlight to blind-out the camera...again, the same principle of having someone flash their flashlight at your cellphone. It just doesn't have any type of lens or covering that would cover the camera's lens to block this out. No filter on the lens, though I'm sure if you really wanted, you can apply some blue-tape or maaaaybe even tint the lens to reduce this. I do like the G-sensor which will turn the camera on and record for 30-seconds (adjustable) if the camera senses the car vibrate. It'll do this everytime the car is off and you get inside -- you'll hear it turn on and record, then shut itself off (internal battery, 1.5 amps. It charges once your car is on). It saves to a 32gb Class 10 (minimum) that you have to provide. I made the mistake of thinking it came with one, so please don't forget that. You receive a great deal of cabling for the rear camera. I've mounted my rear camera right next to the factory back-up camera on my car and still had about two feet of extra cable length for my 2015 Toyota Corolla. The suction cup mount for the front-facing camera is good...not as good as say Schosche (if you've ever used one of their suction-cup mounts, you'll know), but it's stayed on my windshield even in the hot SoCal sun with no issues. It's a great dash camera system for the price, and honestly, if you're looking at this particular one, you're already on the fence about the 4K cameras. Save your money. Use the difference to buy the memory card. 4K v. 1080p is noticeable on a 75" tv, not on a 3" screen.
