My confidence was flagging but after this I remembered many things I'd done successfully yet forgotten. This tends to happen when your self esteem is flagging. I like all the books by Alain de Botton and keep re-reading them. They not only give insight they are very witty and down to earth. Thoroughly recommend this book and all the others too. Review: I am what I am. - Who am I? Was the question that this book by was trying to help me answer. The book is a series of psychological exercises to develop self -understanding which was right up my street, but man it was intense. It covers every facet of life childhood, relationships, sex, other people, work, utopia, culture, sorrow and compassion and re-enchantment. Did it change me? Not exactly but , it helped me acknowledge certain things about myself and where those feelings and beliefs might come from. It hasn't made me want to change but just helped me to understand more deeply why I do some of the things I do, why I react to certain things and made me think about how shifting our perspective on things can help us respond in a different way. I absolutely loved filling it in even the bits that made me feel slightly uncomfortable, but it also made me realise none of us are perfect, we are all a work in progress. I found myself listening to Gloria Gaynor I am what I am a lot more.

Counselling in a book!
This book asks loads of probing questions to guide you through the process of trying to understand who you are and why. I’m still in the first section so it’s early days - it’s going to take a lot of time to work through all this. At first I felt like I wanted to tell someone what I was writing so I could get help! But then I remembered my diaries as a teenager and how much I enjoyed just writing down all the messy angry silly confused thoughts in my head and how much it helped to get them out. I’m hopeful this book will be helpful too 🤞

More questions like
I expected a book. Should have been clear it is a book of questions and blank spaces

A load of old tosh.
This is utter nonsense. Nicely packaged and will look good on your coffee table but the exercises are pointless and shallow and the only purpose of you filling it out is that the sale of the book is making someone rich. You can't even leave it on your coffee table once it's full of your twisted secrets. Therapeutically the book is most beneficial if you beat yourself over the head with it until you are unconscious.

This book is asking me questions I’ve never thought to ask myself before. It’s actually very succesful in helping me figure out why I am the way I am and who I am. I’m very grateful to the authors and publishers of this book that this book exists. I can recommend it to anyone who has problems bringing to words to others who you are and what you stand for, and what you enjoy to you. At the very least with this book, you’ll never have a problem again giving a simple introduction of yourself to others that goes beyond mentioning name age and residence.

I got this book to learn more things about myself that I couldn’t think of on my own. And it was the right choice. So many deep questions to explore!

Es genial, realmente te hace pensar en cosas que dabas por supuestas o que no te llamaban la atención, y que deberían. Es una verdadera lástima que no venga traducido al español.

I’m only a third of the way in and I already find this book to be one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. The prompts truly did help me reflect and are helping me understand myself better. Now I want to start gifting this to all of my loved ones. It is not a book you’ll complete quickly though, be prepared to take your time with multiple sittings.
