Excellent quality case. Check dimensions.
This case is an excellent value and works beautifully for a small handgun if you also need to carry magazines and extra ammo. I use it for my Glock 43 with two mags and a box of 25 self-defense rounds. It took a little doing, but I can get it all in there without a problem. If my gun were much bigger I'd have to take something out. The pluck and pull foam was easy to do and gives a nice fit. Things won't move around at all. Being waterproof and having spots for two locks means I don't worry about this in my checked baggage as I fly. The latches have a sort of double-hinge mechanism that seems very high quality and the hinge on the back is solid. All around this thing just seems remarkably tough. I use the Master Lock 140T like others recommended and it seems purpose-built. Buy the two-pack and they'll come keyed identically. If you're transporting or storing a sub-compact with some extras or a full-size by itself (I dunno, maybe a mag would fit?) this is the perfect case, hands down.

I am now a Pelican Fan! EXCELLENT CASE
EXCELLENT CASE. I want to say this is well worth the money. I almost bough a cheap case..so glad I didn't. I bought this to put a Smith and Wesson 9mm M&P Shield and 2 clips. It is perfect size. Very sturdy case and I bought the recommended locks for it and they fit like a glove. I like the fact that you can carefully take out the squares of foam to make a perfect fit and save them, because you can place them back in. I actually laid them down sideways to make the depth 1/2 of what it was as the S&W is slim. This case has an o-ring around the top to make it waterproof. The closures are real nice, they snap closed. You will not be disappointed on this purchase. I am so glad somebody in a review for a cheap case mentioned Pelican. I was reading all the bad reviews on the cheap cases, then searched Pelican and what a world of difference. I am now a Pelican Fan!

Best Case for 4-6 Dive Watches
After much research, I determined that this is the best Pelican case if you are looking to store 6 watches. The latches scream quality from the first time you open them, and the whole case feels bombproof. While banging around mechanical watches is never advised, I think they'd be quite well protected in this case. I currently have 6 Seiko divers in mine, and it looks fantastic--rugged storage for rugged watches. Using toothpicks to mark the corners, I cut the foam in 5x3 rectangles with 2 squares between each. (Pick N Pluck is a deceiving name; you'll want to use a knife.) I fit four watches vertically in a top row, and 2, horizontally, across the bottom. The cut-out pieces can then serve as pillows without any further modification. I probably could have fit more watches in there if I so desired, but the box looks great in this layout. Then leave a bit of space in there for a few silica gel packets to keep everything dry. You might be tempted by the Pelican 1200, which a lot of people also use as a watch box, but the overall depth of that case is 4.87", versus just 4.37" for this case, which is the perfect depth and makes the case a bit more svelte (if that is even possible for a Pelican case.) So choose the 1170 instead. For a more extensive watch collection, you'd be well served to look at the 1495 laptop case which features a combination lock and a shoulder carrying strap an has briefcase-like dimensions.

Great Case
I ordered this case for my fiance' for his Ruger SR1911 5" barrel. It fits the case just fine with the exception of the sight which I had to modify the top cushion instead of removing it completely. I wanted to keep some of the cushion towards the top so I didn't hit the case. I used a knife to shave a piece of the cushion off instead of removing the cushion (hope that makes sense). The case will accommodate a full size 1911. The case is a nice size. This is the same case as the other 1170 pre-cut foam insert but half the cost. The pick and pluck foam is very easy. For the price, it is worth it to try it out. It really isn't hard to do. After I removed the foam, I noticed that the gun sat low in the cushion, so I took some of the removed pieces and tucked them down in the foam and paid the gun on top of it. Perfect! The case itself is extremely hard. The latches are hard too but not too bad that you can't open it. This is a very secure case.

Perfect, BUT may be overkill for TSA if...
I bought this as a first-time checking a firearm flyer. Lucky for me I live 10 minutes from Detroit Metro and was able to stop in and with this case and my EMPTY Sig Sauer case (yes, both marked "EMPTY" with bright orange tape) carrying through the terminal. I asked TSA what was acceptable. Obviously they said this was -assuming you abide by both TSA and your airline's rules, and the Master locks everyone recommends are indeed perfect. They also confirmed, there is NO SUCH THING as a TSA approved lock. They will cut off any lock if something needs to be opened. To my surprise they noted 2 important things. The first being that my Sig Sauer hard case (for my P938) was perfectly acceptable with the locks. Secondly, what I didn't think about which made me glad to have purchased this was that this leaves no indication of what is inside. As some "sitters" by the luggage would quickly snatch up a case labeled "Sig Sauer" across the front. This case is discreet and tough it may contain a really sentimental five dollar bill or in my "case" an $800 pistol WITH ammo. If in doubt and your alternate case is labeled with what may be inside, dish out the money and get this with the 2 recommended Master locks (they really are a perfect fit). Thank you Pelican, Detroit Metro TSA, and reviews for the suggested locks. Happy travels! p.s. TSA allows live ammo in the same case as a firearm as long as the rounds don't touch (basically your standard 50 round box of Winchester Ranger-T series 124gr +p in the box was fine). The airline itself is what you need to check with. Allegiant had to call it in and get approval to allow it in the same locked case, but they let it fly.

The best you can get.
I needed a solid locking case for travel and this is the best you can get. Pelican is the go-to brand for quality cases for items that are important or valuable to you. Do not be deterred by the price, you get what you pay for, and with Pelican you get quality. It's large enough for me to fit my carry pistol, spare magazines and carry ammo. For flying in the United States this the perfect little case as TSA regulations require a solid locked case. Though I do not believe it's required, I always run zip-ties though the chamber to make it clear that the pistol is unloaded and have never had a problem or question from TSA or airport officials. Only complaint is that the Masterlock locks do not allow you to really move or adjust them once locked meaning they stick up/out at a weird angle. But they're solid and prevents TSA from opening/stealing/inspecting your case without you present so in that regards they do what they're supposed to do. Would easily fit larger frame pistols too and easily fits my other stuff as well. I've only plucked the foam out though to accommodate my CM9 since that is what I often travel with since it's small and easily concealed.
