IRWIN VISE-GRIP Wire Stripper, 8 inch, Cuts 10-22 AWG, Plier Style Nose, ProTouch Grip for Maximum Comfort (2078309)

I bought this tool because: 1) I was looking for a crimping tool 2) I did not have a good set of wire strippers 3) A reviewer indicated that the wire strippers were awesome 4) I thought the price was excellent. In using this tool as a crimper, I discovered that I have a tendency to "over crimp" the connectors. I don't see this as a failing of the tool...I see it as a failing of the user. I just don't have 'the touch' down yet. However, I was blown away by how well this tool strips wires. Pros 1) Great price 2) The gauge guides for wire stripping appear to be right on the money (just as another reviewer noted). When I line up the wire in the correct hole and press the handle, I get this satisfying little "pop" that I feel when a wire stripper exactly cuts the insulation but does not touch the wire underneath. The gauge is that good. 3) It works flawlessly as a wire-cutter. It makes nice clean cuts. 4) It can be used to make crimps if you have the experience and a good feel for it. Given my limitations with crimping, it will be my backup crimper. Cons 1) This is not a con of the product...but I don't make very good crimps with this tool. I blame me and not the tool. It is a solid tool, and I'm sure I could get really good at it with practice, but I wimped out and picked up a ratcheting crimper as well (in particular, I picked up S&G Tool Aid 18900 Professional Ratcheting Terminal Crimper ). I personally recommend the tool as a great wire stripper/cutter. As far as a crimper goes, your personal skill at crimping connectors will determine its usefulness. For my part, I like the stripping/cutting ability so much, along with the price point, that I intend to keep it for that purpose alone. The fact that it can serve as a back up crimping tool is a bonus.

Really nice, handy tool to have around. Easy to use. Makes precise stripping cuts. Used it as a crimper for some 18 gauge wire with butt connectors, perfect.

Excellent tool

Summary: Well made, but design slightly awkward I love the small size and well-made craftsmanship of this tool. The markings on the blades are easy to see and understand. I had a couple of dollar store crimper/cutter/strippers, and they don't work anything as good as this one does. However: the only problem is the placement of the stripper notches, below the pivot point of the cutters. This means you have to put the handle up and over the wire to get the blades in position to strip the insulation. This can be an awkward or self-limiting attempt, especially if you're trying to strip an in-place wire that you can't easily separate from a bundle or move into an easily accessible position. If not for that design limitation, these would be perfect. Quality of Materials: * Excellent, appears very durable. Quality of Fabrication: * Looks like a quality piece of gear; tool operates well. Ease of Installation: * As I noted, stripper blades make usage sometimes awkward. Suitability for Purpose: * My previous strippers don't hold a candle to this pair. Packaging/Delivery: * As usual, Prime delivers fast and delivers well. Package was brand new

This tool is considerably better than the other cheaper crimpers that I already had. I was having problems using stranded copper wires in the automotive application that I have because they would turn and unwind so the wire could escape. Those tools do not have as aggressive crimping anvil as this one. I had tried soldering the wire so that it was like a solid wire and, although that helped, it did not stop the problem from recurring multiple times. This tool's very aggressive anvil allows the pressure on the crimp to compress the stem of the lug through to the other side so that the resulting crimp has a mechanical interference with the wire escaping. The tool has reduced my crimped wire failure incidences from many to almost none (like 1 or 2 out of 100 and those were in part due to not getting the anvil centered on the shank so only one side was crimped) The features of the tool include a wire cutter, strippers, small bolt cutter and the crimper. Each of these features is superior to the corresponding feature on other crimpers. While the stripper actually has fewer sizes, they are deeper so that they actually work and consequently fewer sizes are needed. The bolt cutters have multiple sizes, more than are usually available and it is easier to determine how long the resulting cut bolt will be. The only con I have is that the wire cutter is more of a chopper than a cutter. I think that this is considered by the manufacturer to be superior to a double blade. However, I do not. After a few cuts the blade gets dull and the other side is not there to help. At first I rated this as 4-star, but I think 5-star is appropriate because it is a superior product.

These are a great set of wire strippers. I have been doing electrical for many, many years. I was wiring my cabin and found that I did not have a good wire stripper that would make the wiring jobs go faster. This product was a perfect addition! It is comfortable and easy to use with far less hand fatigue than others I have used. It works well on the 10 - 22 AWG wires and made the job so much easier. This is a quality product for your everyday type wiring projects.

Pesquisei bastante antes de comprar, todas as avaliações que vi eram referentes ao modelo "Decapador". Ao pesquisar por preços e o melhor lugar pra comprar, acabei caindo nesse modelo chamado "Eletricista". Sinceramente, não entendo porque há tão pouca informação sobre esse alicate, pois até agora não encontrei defeitos. Corta fios mais macio que manteiga, corta barra roscada com precisão. Crimpa os terminais de forma satisfatória, decapa os fios sem esforço, cabo agradável pra se trabalhar... Logo, se você é um profissional que passa o dia decapando fios, o modelo Decapador realmente pode fazer diferença. Mas se você realiza diversos serviços de elétrica, e não quer ficar carregando três ou 4 tipos de alicate, esse é uma escolha muito boa.

Very versatile tool, a stripper, cutter, and pliers all in one. Comfortable in the hand and feels well-made. Would buy again
