with a good balance between theory and applications
Clearly written, with a good balance between theory and applications, and with lots of good exercises. I will use it, as I have done in the past, next time I teach advanced calculus for economists

Not for the Mathematically Uninitiated....
I purchased this book on the (mistaken) assumption that I could learn the mathematics of Economics in one, single, compact volume. I have already had math through Algebra I and into Algebra II, so I assumed I possessed the necessary prerequisites to delve into this hefty tome. Not so. Contrary to my expectations -- and the authors' own assertions -- I found the text to be "A math book written by -- and for -- Mathematicians." This book is NOT introductory level. The reader should ALREADY be grounded in Algebra I & II, Matrix Algebra, & at least two semesters of Calculus. I admire the authors for the breadth of the work and the scope of the text, but readers should be forwarned......

Actually I am studying this book with a great enthusiasm, since the book is very good. I advice it everybody well educated about economics. However only one point: I did not reach yet the solution on the web page, to the adress given in the book.

Good overview but more detail would be helpful
The authors provide an overview of mathematical concepts and examples of how they may be applied to economic problems. Having gone through the first 7 chapters thus far, I appreciate the breadth and the organization of the information provided. I have noticed, though, that in order to complete the exercises, or more often the problems at the end of the chapters, the authors sometimes require knowledge about concepts and/ or application of concepts that they have not broached within the prior text. This is compounded by the fact that the authors provide solutions to the problems but do not always include detail on how they derived the solutions. I've been able to fill in most of the gaps by searching the internet, but it is frustrating and time-consuming. Thus, it seems like this book may be most helpful when used for instruction in a class setting when questions may be asked and supplemental information provided. But I would not recommend it for those working on their own.
